WHEN

sorry about the change!! you can read about it on page 3
WHO - are you coming or what?
me and michael
mirrya + mom
anything else that you wanna do? I might be able to bring michaels van and drive us all around. OH! we could go see a movie at the alamo drafthouse.
oook
oh awesome!! are you thinking of working in schools? i dont know where else speech pathologists could work... hm.
oh awesome!! are you thinking of working in schools? i dont know where else speech pathologists could work... hm.
Well... actually I'm going to be an audiologist now, which is why I'll still be in school so long. I went back for my speech master's, but changed my mind when I was almost finished with it. So I'm getting my AuD, but I'm finishing the speech too. I would like to work with kids as an audiologist, so it should give me a big leg up with that. The schools - not so sure. I worked there before, but only as a sub and a teacher slave, so maybe I'm biased, but I feel like the lack of money and all the red tape make your job impossible there. The DISD audiologist has her walls lined with drawers of broken equipment that will never get fixed, and she's doing a three-person job by herself. Ack! Makes me wanna be a sell-out and work with doctors.
yeah. the schools are not doing so well lately. but there are still some good ones out there!! if they have a good admin, its probably a pretty good school... they'll find ways to fund the important things. *cough* *cough* not a brand new field house during the middle of a financial crisis *cough* *cough* hehe
wow! hadven't been to casa de luz in years ... and then it hit me that the parlor is just up the road from me! didn't know they did pizza though! sounds like a cool get-together!
(*waves from austin*)

I come around and read ocasionally. I usually just check the chit chat forum but I noticed this thread in the new post listing and checked it out.
My husband and I will be in Austin on Feb. 27 and 28 to see the Aggrolites and The Flogging Mollys at (G*d help me) Stubb's BBQ. (I'm going to have to put Vick's on my nose to be able to stand the smell.) I don't know if he'd be willing to go up again on March 14 for a veggie meet up but I'll see. The days I get off for Spring Break here at SRSU-RGC are 3/18-20. He's off the previous week for his Spring Break. That sux. Also, we have a letterboxing event sometime in March. So, we're very, very iffy.
ETA The band is Flogging Molly, check them out on you-tube if you like celtic punk! Aggrolites are reggae so it should be an interesting show!
ah ok!
all in favor of changing to the parlor for some super yummy vegan pizza and beer? then we could walk down to epoch and get some coffee... does that sound good?
also. mirrya, i'll be in san antonio on the 12th and 13th of feb. for a conference, i met up with tintexas last year, not sure where she is as of late.... but anyways. if you want to meet up at greens or something, that would be fun!
yay flogging molly!! i hope you guys have fun!
would you want to meet up with me and mirrya at greens for my conference again?? i'll be there february the 12th and 13th.

as far as a live-music venue, Stubb's is really an all-right place; the food stands are off to one side of the outdoor stage and, unless there's some strange wind blowing, the smell isn't what i'd remember most about seeing bands play there ...
g'luck!
Kelsi: I'd love to meet up with you and 2mirraya 2/12 or 13 but I have so many other things that I'll have to take off work for that I need to use my vacation leave for that I can't. Maybe some other time.
As for Stubbs, my DH is still a gd omnivore and he's really looking forward to the bloody bbq. So I'll be nibbling on a salad (probably a pathetic excuse for one) while he consumes a big steamy pile of dead smoked animal flesh. I'll cope but I'll be miserable until he's finished. I don't allow him to eat his murder victims (meat) around me at home! I love the bands we're going to see and DH has promised me we'll eat at vegetarian restaurants the rest of the time we're in Austin. ^-^

anyone have a tentative count how many are planning to make it out?
dont know about yall, but i'll probably be spending the day in austin ...
thought maybe you guys were from austin ... but that's cool; anyone else planning on staying over for the day? any particular ideas what you'd like to see / do?
~ fr
i live about an hour and a half away from austin. so i'll probably spend the day there but then go back in the evening.
and the tentative count is on the first post. i've tried to keep it updated. eek. will you be joining us fml??
will you be joining us?
live really close to the parlor and ride my bike through there all the time ...
... but i work nights, and saturdays, so noon is the middle of my "evening" & i don't usually eat at that time; will look at my schedule.

* (EDIT: for the mention, "Mother's Cafe" is practically down the street from Parlor; they probably offer more choices, and are vegetarian, for those don't want pizza ...)
true. mothers was one of the original options. we can go there if yall want.
we initially picked casa for their pizza night, then we found out that their pizza night is not very good, so then we chose the parlor because they have really good pizza. i guess i got in a pizza mood. hehe.
if it's only a few of you planning to make it out this might not matter so much but over at the Parlor there is very limited parking as they are wall-to-wall with other stores on both sides & directly across the street ...
... whereas Mother's can also get crowded at lunch, they do have a bit more dedicated parking of their own but one can also park on the surrounding streets when the lot is full; those would be curbside parking with no meters as it's a residential neighborhood.
(too, following the fire, the remodel at Mother's has made for more seating space, both inside & on a covered, enclosed, patio area, and the is of a different type environment than that of the Parlor)
for those bringing significant others and/or family members, esp. if these are non-vegan, Mother's might offer a few more non-pizza choices on their lunch menu.
last, as you might guess, as per another thread running here somewhere, you're likely to find, uhm,..., "hippies" eating at either/or both places, just in case that might upset anyone who's invited or planning to attend.
~ fr
* p.s. there are other members/subscribers here at vegweb who list themselves as austinites, some even here in , who don't appear to participate here on the boards; hopefully they might be invited either off their myspace or aim contacts ...
haha. the hippie thing is why my boyfriend HATES mothers and why i LOVE it. hehe.

strange thing, 'hatred',..., but if your bf sticks around a bit, maybe camps out for awhile at mother's & starts to meet some of the regulars, he'd run into some of the "hippies", i.e., actual folks who came through the 60s, who, aside their outlook on life, accomplished goals like becoming physicians, attorneys, engineers, and other cool things. austin, all things said & done, is home to a lot of really interesting people*.

* (did you ever meet the quakers in this area? --- www.austinquakers.org)
i tried to. i went down to an event that they hosted, i kept asking the volunteers, who here goes to the meetings, and she said one guy that was there might go to meeting but they hadnt seen him in an hour. haha. so i tried, but no luck. ohwell.
today's new edition of the "Chronicle" (www.austinchronicle.com) features a story with photos about the Parlor's unusual punk-rock "family":
