Picnic Party

Grab your checkered-print table cloth, a basket, and a few fun friends because it’s National Picnic Day! Some of you may recall that Earth Day was earlier this week and before that a certain springtime chocolate-centric holiday, so it’s the perfect time to continue the festivities outdoors with a scrumptious picnic.

According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the word “picnic” came to be in the English language in 1748. At that time, it was a lavish social affair that didn’t always take place outside––perhaps their checkered-print table cloths were a bit fancier … with fringe maybe.

And while we’re perfectly content with an impromptu pop-up picnic in our very own backyards, National Geographic put together a list of the top 10 places in the world to have a picnic. Huayna Picchu, Peru––9,000 feet up in the air––along with the romantic Villa Borghese Gardens of Rome, Italy are not to be missed … don’t forget to check your picnic basket’s dimensions to make sure it can fit under the airplane seat or in the compartment overhead!

But whether you’re headed to the top of a mountain or to your local park, the most important part of a picnic are the people and the nosh. Here are five delicious VegWeb recipes to get your party-in-the-park roaring! As always, thank you to the all of the wonderful VegWebbers who create the best vegan recipes anywhere.
