The Rock-Your-Body Fitness Thread

We talk about health and exercise in a lot of different threads.  It's time for a one-stop shop.

As you all have read ad nauseam, I have a super slow metabolism so I'm always looking for ways to increase my fitness.

I'm going to join a gym next Wednesday (most likely).  Is it true that I should leave a day between working muscle groups?  I'll likely only be at the gym on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so I'm not sure what the best excercises are if I'm only going to be working that area once.  Like, Wednesday for legs or front and Thursdays for arms or back.  Something like that?  I'll have about an hour between work and when yoga starts and the gym will be relatively empty, so I'll have plenty of time and access to equipment.

----------

I recently read that dehydration leads to a drop on body temperature and a drop in temp triggers a body to store fat.  Of all the dagnabbit, underhanded, flea-analogue bitten things!  My normal temp is in the 97.1 - 97.3 F (36.2 - 36.3 C) range.

Ok, you know what sucks? My period...I don't wanna do anything except eat and be a lazy bum. It seems like everytime I get into a good workout groove, here comes my stupid period to screw it up! Sometimes I really resent being a woman :(

I was a sack all week and only got 2 days in.  Monday I will be back to my routine though!  And taking into consideration several of MMM's suggestions.  Thanks for joining in!  :)

I read that twice as:  I was in the sack all week

I so wish! hahaha  LB got back from a week long trip to Michigan late Saturday but I only got lucky that evening. :(

Corinnas, do some cardio.  Every time I had my horrible period I would fall off the exercise bandwagon until I discovered that riding my recumbent bike helped relieve cramps.  Sure it didnt do anything for the bleeding but the cramps would fade for the work out time and a few hours afterwards as well.  Just actually getting started is the hard part but once you do, it should be easy to continue!  Honest.

Yeah, I've found that riding the exercise bike, and even my trail bike on a relatively smooth surface, helps with cramps. Though they seem to start right back up about 15 mins after I'm done. Bike riding has been the majority of my wokouts this week 'cuz everything else hurts (especially core workouts  :-[).

So today I did 10 minutes of floor stretching exercises then 20 minutes of bicep and triceps weight lifting and 60 minutes on the recumbent bike which was exactly 12 miles!  RAWR!

I feel so very much better about today and even this week.  I think I did need the last week to slack off a bit to jump into it again re energized.  Tomorrow I will do legs!

whew! Just did 60 mins of core, hips, thigh, and butt workouts to sparkpeople. I'm done for today. :)

Monday ACCOMPLISHED.  And I hardly got any sleep.  I almost cancelled, but I knew I'd have to come here and post about it!

Spinning was so great.  The instructor was Jillian and she is the best.  Even better than Jillian Michaels.

Tomorrow will be my first day back exercising since I hurt myself.  All of your daily successes have me looking forward to it.  Thanks for the inspiration!

Take it easy! : )

Will be my first time at the gym in nearly a week tonight due to the chaos that was the end of last week-up till last night.  Looking forward to it too : )
I think I just need to magic a couple of extra hours out of... somewhere... because I feel bad when I go to the gym because I have housework/cooking to do, and feel bad when I don't, because I should be exercising more.  Solution: bonus hours, then there'll be time for everything! : D

I'm slowly working myself back into running... I have a problem with chronic tendonitis in my feet (and it's easier to re-injure since scar tissue is not as strong), and so I'm sitting in class thinking I WANT TO RUN, but don't wanna hurt myself.
Here's the plan, to gradually:
run 1 mi
run 2 mi
run 3 mi (previous habit)
once that is reached, re-shred. The Shred is cool n all, but I can't feel legitimately "shredded" without running. You know?

Ok, KMK, you inspired me to try a loose workout plan I'm going to try to follow (at least until my ankle heals) so I can progress a bit more in my workouts:

M-F, Somewhere in-between these 5 days I will complete these workouts and possibly take a day off, depending how I'm feeling:
+ 60 min core, thigh, hips, and butt workout
+ 30 min upper body
+ 30 min yoga
+ 30 min core
+ 60 min elliptical/exercise bike (split into three 20 minute sessions, depending what's available while I'm at the gym).

Sat:
+ 1.5-3 hrs. of a random outdoor activity (biking, kayaking, hiking, etc.)
or if it's crappy outside: visit the gym and workout whatever's not sore.

Sun:
clean, cook, and sit on ass (very important  ;)b).

allright, lets hope I can stick with this. I may slack off a little bit next week while I'm on vacation, but I plan on starting back up when I return. Wish me luck!

so I'm not fancy enough to have a plan, but I did have a good workout at the gym last night, made me feel much more awake and happy by the time I got home than I did when I left work. woo. : )

I'm glad!  I think a plan and tracking your progress are so critical when you have a specific goal.  So teacher-esque of me.

I am EXHAUSTED today, so nap and then gym.  I'm gonna get up at around 7 to get ready, leave at 7:30, workout 8-9:30.  Yay!

3/7 done!

I am trying something new tomorrow--going to the gym in the morning.  The morning is my favorite workout time, and I want to attempt it and see if it fits in before work.  I'm gonna get up at 5, workout from 5:30-6:30, shower and get ready, leave by 7, get there by 7:30.  I hope it works!  Gonna go pack my stuff and go to bed.

Go go HH!  KMK you rock! You can do an AM work out easy.

Today I got up at 7:30 and did my work out but with shoulders/back as my lifting zone for the day.  Even though I had to leave the house by 9:45 I still got 10 miles in too!  RAWR!

Tomorrow is legs I hope.  Cross your fingers for me that I can climb up the stairs after it. hahah

AM work outs are the best. I never understood why the gym was full at 10 pm at school. It's soooooo difficult to run that late for me.
Now if I could only find the motivation to wake up earlier than absolutely necessary...

My side was feeling tons better yesterday and today.  I went to the gym and did my planned 20 ellipitical minutes only workout.  My legs have recovered from a couple of weeks ago when I over-worked them and I was able to go at regular speed.  Toward the end today, when I was breathing heavier, my side hurt, but not until I had about five minutes left, and it didn't hurt much.  I'm going to stick to my plan to not go to yoga this week and only do one more 20 minute ellipitcal session on Thursday.  Yay for recovery.

Thanks for the advice about cardio, I did go for a run, and suprisingly it did help. But I still wanted to eat everyhting in my house!

My new system is really working.  I haven't done my weigh in yet but I can tell I've lost at least a pound.
It's also really easy to motivate myself to get going.

I did legs on Wednesday and core on Thursday.  Plus 10 miles both days.  I feel all over sore today so I think its just a cardio day and then the weekend to be spent walking outside way more than I like. hahah

Now I need to just make my way down to the bike to use it.  Ugh.  Motivation. I lack thee!
