Savory Biscuits
2 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar
1 cup nondairy milk
1-2/3 cups unbleached white flour
1/3 cup nutritional yeast flakes
5 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon dried herbs
1 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons margarine
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Buttermilk: To a measuring cup, add apple cider vinegar. Add nondairy milk to fill the measuring cup to the 1 cup measurement line. Stir gently and let sit for a minute to curdle.
3. In a bowl, combine the flour, nutritional yeast flakes, baking powder, herbs, and salt. Cut the margarine into the flour mixture until mixture is crumbly. Add the “buttermilk” to the flour mixture and stir into a ball of dough.
4. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to about 1 inch thick. Cut biscuits with a sharp cutter and place on lightly oiled cookie sheet.
5. Bake at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 12 minutes.
SO HOW'D IT GO?
AMAZING! I didn't have a cutter so I just made drop biscuits :) but OMG, sooo yummy! Seasoned them with a mixture of fennel seed, rosemary, basil, savory, and thyme (basically herbs de provence). Then I sprinkled garlic powder and rosemary on top of the biscuits before I baked them... sooo delicious!!! :)
Oh boy were these good! I've been craving biscuits for a while and wanted something to make with dinner tonight. My only problem was that I rolled the dough too thin so that they didn't bake up as big as I would like. This is going into my recipe box.
HOLY CRAP! :D These were so good! They taste almost cheesy. I'm eating some right now! I'll be making these for a long time. They're soft and fluffy and SO GOOD! Thanks for the recipe! :)>>>
Made these for Thanksgiving dinner and everyone loved them! Great re-heated with leftovers too.
Fantastic recipe! I added very little extra flour, so that the dough was easier to handle. I added half basil, half oregano for the herbs and they tasted great. Thanks for the recipe!
I love the cheese flavor they have.
Don't leave out the nutritional yeast, then! That's what gives the cheesy flavor.
These were fantastic. I'm going to make them again tonight with dinner. I'll be playing around with this recipe a lot. Different herbs, no nutritional yeast, no herbs, etc. I think there's room to make SO many different flavors. This time around I threw in half italian herbs & half oregano. I love the cheese flavor they have. Good stuff! ;)b
Made these several times, and they are sooo delicious! I could eat a whole batch myself! For the spices I used herbes de provence, which brought up memories of Red Lobster's cheesy biscuits. My only problem with the recipe is that the dough never seems to reach the right consistency without a lot of time messing with it, adding pinches of flour and trying to get it not so sticky but not so heavy too. Can't figure out that magic measurement! The recipe just needs a little perfecting. At least they always turn out edible and yummy! Thanks for such a fantastic recipe!
This is my new go-to biscuit recipe! LOVE them! :)>>>
These were incredible! Even my mom liked 'em and she's a hard to please old fashioned southern cook ;)b
