Garlic Cheese Biscuits

What you need:

1 1/4 cups plain nondairy milk
1 tablespoon vinegar
3 cups unbleached all purpose flour (whole wheat can be used)
1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons vegan margarine, divided (Earth Balance works best)
3-5 ounces vegan cheese, shredded (Follow Your Heart worked really well for me)
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder, divided

What you do:

1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F and grease a cookie sheet. Add vinegar to milk, and let curdle. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a large mixing bowl.
2. Add 3 tablespoons margarine and cut it into the mixture, until the mixture is somewhat crumbly. Add cheese, sour milk, and 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, and mix until a ball of dough forms.
3. Let the dough sit for about 5 minutes. Drop onto prepared cookie sheet into balls of about 2" in diameter, be sure to not lay them too close together.
4. Bake for about 14 minutes; they don't brown too much on the tops but keep a close eye on the bottoms during the last few minutes of baking.
5. Meanwhile, melt the remainder of the margarine (2 tablespoons), and add the rest of the garlic (1/2 teaspoon) to the melted margarine. As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush the garlic butter mixture onto the tops of all the biscuits.
Serve hot, goes good on the side of pretty much anything!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

These were FANTASTIC! My family and I couldn't get enough..I did add a little more salt per other posts...as well as some dried chives..(I love green...had no parsley..but the chives worked perfectly)....and I added almost 2 TBL of garlic powder(my mis- reading)..but that worked out great..and some dill. This is a forever family keeper! Thank you!! :)>>> :)>>> :)>>> ;)b

what recipe did you use for those fried chicken looking strips?

There is a recipe under Chicken alternatives called "Fried Chicken"...it has the most accurate ingredients of what I used....The only difference is I used panko breadcrumbs with the flour...as well as garlic powder to the mustard mixture..I also used soymilk instead of water.

No..add it to the mustard mix you will dip the strips in before dipping it into the flour.

when you say you used soymilk instead of water, do you mean you boiled these in soymilk?

Oh ...and I did not use nutritional yeast...but one day will try....And I used Gardein Chick'n Scallopini patties instead of the seitan.

Holy moly! These were delicious! I'd never made home made biscuits before and wanted to give it a whirl. These were really easy to make and SO YUMMY. They tasted like the biscuits at Red Lobster! My batch made almost 20 and took only 7 minutes in my oven lol. We have 3 biscuits left. 4 were gone before dinner was even done. That's how good they are. This recipe is definitely going in my recipe box. I'm so happy I found it thank you!! Now I must learn to restrain from making these with every meal.  ;D

These are absolutely delicious.  I love using Daiya cheddar and the garlic earth balance but even without it's a great biscuit recipe.

Amazing biscuits! I didn't have any soy cheese, so I left it out. New favorite biscuit recipe.
