Buffalo Style Tofu
What you need:
1 pound extra firm tofu, cut into strips 1/4" thick
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/4 cup nonhydrogenated vegan margarine
1/2 cup hot sauce
What you do:
1. Sprinkle tofu with garlic powder. Spray a thin film of cooking spray on a frying pan.
2. Fry the tofu on high heat, flipping occasionally. It's done when the outside is slightly brown, or there are dark spots on it.
3. Melt the margarine in the microwave, add the hot sauce and stir. When the tofu is done place it in the sauce. Make sure the tofu is covered. If you like it hotter or milder just change the ration of hot sauce to margarine.

SO HOW'D IT GO?
WHOOO HOOOO!!! Add this to your recipe box! I followed the suggestion of breading my thawed tofu (I used Panko-Japanese Breadcrumbs), then poured the sauce over it and baked it. It smelled like a Hooters in my kitchen (although I've never been to Hooters, I can only imagine :P). For kicks I put on my short orange shorts and tight t-shirt served them to my drooling husband. Served with kale and brown rice....will be making this weekly!
This was easy to make and tasty. :)
I have made a similar version of this for years. It was the introduction to my eating tofu. I recommend using the spray butters that have few calories with the hot sauce. Just don't use too much because they are high in sodium. Also, this recipe is absolutely delicious and non-veg friendly when the tofu is deep-fried. Yes, this isn't exactly healthy or nutricious, but sometimes it's nice to not worry about all of that. For healthier versions, I suggest frying cubed tofu in a wok with minimal oil. You can moderate the amount of oil and still give the tofu a nice crunchy texture on the outside. I also highly recommend sunflower oil with this recipe. It adds a bit more flavor.
I made this (obviously).
It was messy. I was coughing a lot. I had no garlic so i just used adobo;D
it was WAy too spicy and i needed to throw some of it out because it was just too hot(tho it was my fault).........but GAWD did i enjoy making this and eating it. I love spicy crap. I'm definately making this again (with less sauce)!!
I get a Buffalo Tofu wrap at my local health food store. I'll try this recipe and see how it comes out. They use spinach leaves, tomato, buffalo tofu wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. It's very very very good (but, very messy)...maybe they could call it Sloppy Buffalo Tofu Wrap ; )
