You are here

New and saying hello!

Just joined and wanted to say hi to everyone. I am newly vegan, started about 3 months ago. I love it, but finding vegan food in my area is very difficult. Hopefully I can find some good recipes here.

;)b

Welcome! Do you have any vegan cookbooks yet? Books like Supermarket Vegan and Vegan Express might be very helpful for you. They focus on foods that you can find in the grocery store and short ingredients lists.

Thanks! I will have to check that out. A friend lent me Skinny Bitch in the Kitch. It had some easy stuff in it.

Hi! VW has tons of recipes with just 'regular' grocery-store stuff... The only things I usually buy at Whole Foods are nutritional yeast, raw cashews, and occasionally tempeh, seitan, or Vegenaise. Everything else just comes from the neighborhood grocery: beans, lentils, chickpeas, balsamic vinegar, brown rice, wheat pasta, sunflower seeds, oatmeal, cranberries or raisins, fresh & frozen fruits & veggies, olives, sesame & olive oils, spinach, artichokes, peanut butter, flour/ yeast... there's a ton of good veg food that can be made from pretty common ingredients!

You can also order almost anything online...check out http://store.veganessentials.com, and note that almost anything in the universe can be ordered from amazon.com-- for any 'specialty' foods you need for a recipe or want to try, that aren't available locally.

Anyway, glad you're here! VW is an awesome resource... be sure to check out the forums, too, along with the recipes-- they're fun!

Welcome!

Hi!  this site has lots of great recipes on it!  I just got several cookbooks and have been enjoying cooking new things, but there are still a few ingredients I haven't been able to find.  I live in a small town so I know how it can be!  Best of luck to you!

Yes, small towns are not always vegan friendly! I am learning to get by, but I can't wait to move to a more open minded area of the country!
