You are here

Greetings!

Hey, everyone! My name's Faye, and on Nov. 5 I'll have been a vegan for a year. My animal-free and animal-friendly diet has benefited me in so many ways; I feel so much healthier and far more knowledgeable and aware of what goes into my body. And one of the steps to making it possible has been this site! I've used it for months to make recipes, and I never thought to make an account, until now.

And now, here's some more me-exclusive information, so that this says more than, "Yeah, I like tofu too, what a coincidence!"

I'm panicky, talkative, and a total nerd. I'm starting college this month, though I've got no idea what I'll major in because I kind of love everything. I used to be homeschooled, so I'm really socially awkward, and I essentially have no RL friends. I'll be starting completely fresh, and I have no idea to expect but I'm SO excited.

My obsessions are numerous and extremely passionate. Right now, I'm fixated on Scandinavian films. I love them so much - their use of colors, their limited and intense dialogue, and their detail-oriented, slow-but-intense style. They are but one of my many loves. (Other obsessions encompassing numerous years of my life include Harry Potter, Notre-Dame de Paris, Modest Mouse, Dungeons & Dragons, etc., etc.)

I love writing, poetry, pretty much any of the arts. I play a lot of video games, but I'm somewhat bad at the ones which take actual skill. I love board games and card games too. I could just sit around all day playing Solitaire. Though it'd be uhm, a little lonely. Yeah.

Anyway, I think that's enough rambling for now. HAI GUYS. :>

Welcome aboard!
You sound like an awesome person.  8)

You sound quite interesting. How many people can share info on Scandinavian films. You are passionate and talkative about the things you love. You are the kind of person I would like to chat with at a social event. . . if I could get over my shyness too.  :)

Welcome!
You seem pretty cool to me. ....at least, I'm pretty sure You and I would find plenty to talk about, even if the only conversation topic revolved around "what makes me nerdy" or whatnot. :D

I hope You enjoy Yourself here in the forums! You probably have tons of good insight and stuff to add to Our many threads here.

.......In fact, I would love it if You'd share more about Your favourite films (Scandinavian and other), possibly in the "What's New, Pussycat?" board. ;)b

Well, I recently saw two which I found to be exceptional. The first, called 'You, the Living', is a collection of vignettes about various people which essentially reflects on humanity. I only expected it to be okay, but the directing, acting and writing really blew me away. Every single character was so entirely lovable, it was a beautiful story.

The second, called 'Smiles of a Summer Night', is a black-and-white film from the fifties about a number of individuals and the way each of them fall in love with another, often switching partners on the way. It's an exploration of the meaning of love, and is truly a fantastic, well-paced story; I found it to be startlingly mature for its time.

I also love Elling, Let the Right One In, and O'Horten. <3 I'm sure I'll watch another film when I get home tonight, so I'll have something to flail about upon my return. :D

What are you nerdy about? ^^

Oh, and, I'll definitely check out that board. I'd love to have a place to rant about my film obsessions, haha. :D

Nice to meet you!!!

I'm pretty obsessive about Indian/Hindi/Bollywood films and Asian films, so I understand.

Welcome to Vegweb!

I've seen a couple phenomenal Asian films - Battle Royale, Millennium Actress, etc. - but it's not a genre I've explored excessively.

As for Indian films, I've seen absolutely NONE. Maybe that should be next on my list?  :)

Open Hearts and After The Wedding are 2 scandinavian movies I love, both very sad though.

Hi Tinylights!

Very glad to meetcha, and glad you're here! My kid is also starting college this fall, and is pleasantly terrified, lol... my sis & bro & nephew were home schooled (I blazed the trail for bro/ sis by being persistently troublesome and miserable in traditional schools... they SO owe me!! haha) and my kid would have been, if not for our proximity to freethinkin' soul-nurturin' Montessori ed all the way through middle school... anyway, congratulations on setting sail in the world! I hope all your adventures are fabulous, including your VegWeb ones.

:)

PS, I'm socially awkward too, and nerds are awesome.

I haven't seen those but they're definitely at the top of my list now. :)

I actually rather disliked homeschooling, but it's okay - what's done is done.
Though, I'll probably homeschool my kids, at least until they're middle or high school age; I'll just do it a lot better than my parents did, haha!

Haha, so true.

..me? oooh, well.......
Lord of the Rings, The X-Files, REPO! The Genetic Opera (SUPERhuge fangirl/geek about that one), Star Trek, Star Wars, plus tons of other fantasy/sci-fi movies/TV/animation (which surprisingly doesn't really include HP; I'm just not crazy about it), old horror movies (and some new, too), Ren Faires, Costuming, various nerd conventions (at least, envying those who get to attend/perform at them, as I've yet attend any m'self), Language (use, etymology, etc.), Cryptozoology, Musicals, Theatre, Marching Band (former member/forever fan).......

to name a few.
:D

I really like Repo! Have you seen Buffy? Anthony Stewart Head as Giles is soooo perfect. <3 And, I adore Star Trek/Wars as well! I'm a tiny bit more of a Trekkie, but I recently resaw the original trilogy of Star Wars films and loved them. ^^

All of those other subjects are great as well, though I haven't explored most of them thoroughly. I totally love nerd conventions - I'm the kind of person who dressed up in full HP regalia when each book was released, haha. And musicals and theatre are great as well. I'm going to see Wicked in a couple months when they end up in Florida... can't wait. :>

Hell yeah!

I've been soooo obsessed with Twin Peaks, and no one in my family will watch it because they think it's nerdy or something! It drives me crazy. I absolutely adore Agent Cooper. <3 And, though most people tend to dislike them, I think Bobby and Donna are such great characters. xD It's hard to dislike anyone, really. The show is so amazing, and so ahead of its time. ><

Also, I really wanna stay in that hotel, lmao.
