Feeling Ancient

I love reading everyone's posts, and then I go visit profiles, because it's fun to learn about the people who have such great personalities.

BUT....

Every profile I've read has belonged to twenty-somethings.  Are there any ancient ones lurking besides me?  Say, over forty?  Or am I the only one heading for menopause?

Just curious...

What's all this falderol about being middle aged?  Geez...I'm only 40.  Anyway, I intend to live forever.  It's worth a shot anyway.

With that attitude, you just might!!  ;)b

I'm 47 next month.  :)

I am 64....does that help?? :)  Aging hippie actually.  and sorry folks but not a purist vegan.  But just like the taste of most of it.  Daughter and grand daughter are vegetarian.  and I am a cook from scratch period person.  and I mean EVERYTHING.  Am presently on a hunt for seitan bacon bits....not the formed pink and white stuff but "bits"  so far all I can find are Tvp and soya.  Wheee experiment time eh?

Oh I also need help learning computer magic.  Still can't figure how to make chat work.

Vegan Bacon Bits

To make it with seitan, this is what I'd try first:
Mix 4 parts vital wheat gluten to 2 parts flavor (or more) to 1 part water.  Bake at 350 F for 25 minutes, cool, cut into thin strips, and bake or dehydrate until dry.  Briefly whirl in food processor for bacon bit sized pieces.

What prob are you having with chat?  Do you click Join Chat, but you don't get the chat screen?  It may be a software update issue.

I'm 48, and it makes me laugh to think I've actually lived long enough to have grey hair. I didn't expect to. I know what you mean though, I used to be in the chat room and realise...I was old enough to be everybody in there's mom!
But really I don't get myself all out of shape about it like some of my friends do...it's gonna happen if you live long enough. And I was never a great beauty, anyway, so no traumas there.  ;)b

Tried that....borring.  Ended up with ground chicken  lol  and the recommended site. uses tvp.  But hey I make the BEST chicken substitute in the world.  Am presently experimenting with liquid smoke and maple sugar for the bacon ones.  Never boil the stuff.
Unfortunately folks I cannot go 100% vegan due to many med problems.  Three bouts of cancer and have lost right leg and have no female parts.  But mostly problem is only 19 inches of intestine left. Soooo I am on many non vegan meds and foods. but am vegetarian!  lol and I still cook from scratch. Oh for best chicken seitan use McCormicks 'Chicken' cubes and add poultry spices and cook in oven.
don't have recipes 'cause I never use one.  lol  just look and them to see what to change  he he
Let's face it at 64 I have been cooking forever. ;D

Hcm, I love that poem!

And I want to say as well that of course you are all most welcome here, regardless of age and choice of hats :)

Well, we'd just better be! or else we'll chase you young whippersnappers out of our yard with a fly-swat! and we play canasta with your mother, you know... so you'd all just better behave yourselves!

lol, sorry, channeling my future self by accident (in which i'm the scary 'cat-lady' whose doorbell the neighborhood kids dare each other to press & run)...  ;D

I'm 39 and hanging on to it....but I still feel 25. Most people don't believe I am as old as I am (it's been that way since I was a kid). I'm 10! No you're not, you're 7!!! lol

People always thought I was older than my age until I was about 30. I went to college at 16, went into all kinds of bars etc and never once got carded.
Now no one believes I'm 48, but that's because I dye my hair. If I didn't it would be totally grey. I don't mind but DH seems to. Funny thing is I never do and never have worn makeup. Maybe that's what kept my skin young, not clogging up the pores.

Now no one believes I'm 48, but that's because. . .

I'm 48 as well but I had people guess my age and it has been all over the board. I don't look young. The hair is getting pretty thin and I'm scarred up like a bull elephant seal.

I had a little boost of self esteem a few weeks ago. . . I coach girls volleyball (5th - 6th grade). I was scrimmaging with the players and during a time out I overheard a couple of the girls talking about me in the front row. "How old IS he?", "I think he's in his thirties". One of the girls turned around and said, "Coach, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?" I told her I was 48 and and her jaw dropped. "I though you were maybe.. . 34". She turned around to the other girls and said "He's 48!" Someone responded, "No way! He's so flexible and athletic."

Just another reason to eat well and exercise :)

I used to dye my hair my natural brown because I went gray in my early 40's and hated it and it was pretty consistent that people thought I was younger than I was.  When I turned 50 and the bald spot grew to half my crown, I embraced my age and decided to no longer dye it.  People sometimes are still guess me to be a bit younger, but don't act shocked when I say I'm 51 like they used to before when I had it dyed.  Oh well, that's not really all that important to me anymore.

I've often been carded at bars when my friends weren't, as a younger gal... which was fine despite the hassle, ya know, & kinda flattering... but now... my only child just went off to college, and suddenly I'm arguing that 'yes i AM TOO that old, dammit, no i wasn't a junior high mom!!'-- then go, wait... why am i arguing this? Nevermind!

('course... i work with the 90+ set... so... probly a lot depends on one's frame of reference, in such matters...)

Kissin' 50 here and loving life, well except for the menopause. That is another thread entirely!

I'll be fifty in less than a week.  It's killing me.  Even the fact that my husband will turn 65 the day after I turn 50 doesn't comfort!  But I sure hope 50 turns out to be better than 49.

I think it's because you have freaking incredible skin.  It glows through tiny avatars, so irl it must be amazing - the kind of glowing that no one past 25 has.

Agreed! If you hadn't said anything I would have never guessed you had a kid in college! I'm not good at guessing ages but you definitely fooled me.
