6 week vegan challenge (with intention for life change)

Hello! My name is Shilah. My family (except my 18 year old son who wants no part in it) started a 6 week vegan challenge 6 days ago (3/16/14). My partner and my other 3 children jumped on board...for the most part. Our motive is to eat a healthier diet that does not contribute to the torture and/or death of innocent animals. I am also very overweight and looking to lose weight and keep it off. So far so good. We have been about 85% vegan and 100% vegetarian. The no meat is easy and not a difficult adjustment. Vegan is much more challenging. I am looking for support, information and recipes. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Shilahbug! Congratulations to you and your family for embarking on this wonderful journey to wellness and compassionate living. And welcome to VegWeb! We hope you've been able to poke around and try many delicious recipes!
I always like to suggest trying lots of new foods in order to "crowd out" old eating habits. I think this is one of the easiest ways to make the transition. Try all the delicious flavors of soy milk, almond milk, hemp milk, or coconut milk to replace dairy. Try all the yummy and filling grains like farro and quinoa that you can easily craft entire meals around. And please do browse through all the recipes on our site that our wonderful VegWebbers have submitted. When you're ready, don't hesitate to submit your own vegan recipes!
Good luck to you and your family!
