i would love some input here... please find the time to watch these 2 videos on youtube...
i am scared... the more i learn about corporate greed the more i get upset... GMO's are invading crops and corporations are patenting GMO seeds and forcing farmers to plant them (basically is what i understand)... it is ruining life as we know it :(
please if anyone has more info about this or letting me know that it is pure bs i would love to know... i am really upset about what is going on in our world... i know a lot of you peeps are really well red and researched please give some input!

I saw this a year or two ago on French TV (and made a thread about it here somewhere). I was so distressed and disturbed by this documentary that I couldn't watch quite all of it. I have since recommended it to people here. The makers are reputable, not "conspiracy weirdos" and that makes it all the more scary, when they talk to Monsanto employees themselves.
I don't think it is "BS." Partly because of who made it and partly because the channel that broadcast it here (Arte, a French/German joint venture) is known for its reputability and journalistic integrity. And partly because as we all know, for big business it's all about the money they can make right now...and the future, the environment and human life be damned.
OK, the woman demonstrating her googling skills is just hilarious and hard to take seriously..."Well, I used google for a month or so......" Yeah OK lady. Who the hell are you?
That aside (as it really doesn't matter, I just think it's funny), I think the part about the PCBs is definitely legit. There are lots and lots of documented cases about pollution being overlooked, purposefully, especially in minority/low-income areas. My mom wrote her dissertation about this for her PhD. It's very sad.
That's really the only part I watched. I don't have a well-informed opinion about GMOs, and I couldn't find the youtube video that addresses that. If you could post the link I'd be interested to watch that part.

Unfortunately, I don't think these are 'BS' claims at all... Two of my favorite books about food ethics ('The End of Food,' 'Harvest for Hope') go into a lot of detail about the issues surrounding Monsanto/ ConAgra/ et al's control of food production (w/ pesticided-up, soil-stripping, monocropping of produce designed for transport/ high yield vs nutrition or taste), & the whole GMO issue-- which is (imo) breaking the ecoweb in ways we don't fully understand & certainly have no idea how to fix... I think if it weren't a 'real' issue, Jane Goodall & all the other authors that have addressed it would have been sued for libel by now; Monsanto certainly has deep enough pockets to silence anyone writing those things, if it *weren't* true...

Support local farmers; down with corporate food, I say! It may well be too late to put some of the genies back in their bottles, & that really worries me... but I avoid giving money to the guys that let them out, every chance I get. 'Cause they certainly seem to suck.

Personally I don't think I ever had GM food, and tend to go for organic food in general.
Farming in the way shown at the start leads to pests.
Pests mean farmers use pesticides.
They often use artificial fertilisers.
These in turn kill a lot of the eco systems in the soil.
This leads to a lower soil quality, leads to pollution in rivers, so on so forth.
Perhaps it's wishful thinking but I think and hope that most people on the forum try to buy organic where possible.
I didn't know that monsanto own about 90% of the worlds GMO's or that they used to be a chemical based company. It's really very scary to take all of that into account. I think most people have seen the clip from the brilliant documentary "the corporation" about fox news, Monsanto, and the bovine injections to produce more milk.
At some point I'll watch the full documentary (and show my flatmate who studies business and management).
AML: I finally got to the end of this documentary (took a while, 'cause it kept pissing me off! had to take frequent 'Daily Show/ Jon Stewart' breaks, for mood management)... Thanks so much for posting! The more I learn about industrial food production, the more angry I get... but knowledge is power, & all, so I definitely recommend this video! There's so much that most people don't know about where our food comes from -- even those of us who give a shit, and actively think about it!
Stuff like what's in this video should be required educational material for all high school students, imo... I'm 38, and continually find things about our food supply that make me go, "what the f'ing HELL?! why didn't I KNOW about this shit?!!"

i'm glad u liked it :) for me this was the most upsetting video i think i have seen so far! i mean besides the animal cruelty videos... i mean just the fact that even our precious fruits and veggies are under attack! i started crying because i just think our world has become a rotten greed filled place... nobody with "power" has any morals, seriously! they care more about money then what they are doing to people... how can they sleep at night?
I can only assume that they find a way to rationalize that personal gain at the expense of everything else must be ok... humans can rationalize some f'd up shit...
I just wrote about this video (along with a recent Monsanto news article) at http://www.ecovore.org/blog/?p=255... these guys so totally suck; they may be about seed vs. animal farming, but they definitely do as much harm-- maybe more, b/c of untold impact of GMOs on uncountable species... to me, these guys represent everything reprehensible about modern humanity's approach to the natural world. Boo, Monsanto!!!

Welcome to capitalism and the free market, and some of it's ('unintended'?) effects. I mean a $'s a $'s a $ ::) (reference to video embedded in the original post). It's one of the reasons I'm against the free market (especially how it stands).
The morals comment doesn't quite fit though, because all of that's so vague.
What set of morals should people adhere to; some people will say Buddhist ethics, some Christian, some utilitarianism, some Kantianism, so on so forth.
And politics wise when only certain parties have a chance at getting it, how can you make it so that the state stops these things happening?

What's interesting about the corporation is that it looks at both sides of the argument, it doesn't just put across one view.

i saw Food, Inc. which made me want to know more about monsanto... The Corporation also mentions monsanto in a few parts as well... i had never even heard of this company before like last week! i live in a bubble i swear :( but i am really enjoying watching all these videos... becoming vegan is what made me start to question things we are brainwashed to believe... and i just want to keep on questioning!
So in the course of my ranting about the evils of 'Monsantopheles' (I'm pretty sure this company is the devil!), my journalist hubby produced some good additional info... apparently they have a long history of bullying the media into not telling people about the evil shit they do...

“Toxic Sludge is Good for You” is a hubby-recommended book about corporate manipulation of propaganda & censorship, within the U.S. media; a recent video of the same name can be found at (http://) video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3579911499802972602&hl=en#. It's about 45 minutes long, & pretty good, I thought... I'd recommend the whole thing, but if you want to go straight to food issues, go to about minute 32; GMO/ biotech (Monsanto) issues start around minute 37.

Actually I did, but apparently I was asleep at the switch. I have a bad habit of only reading posted text and ignoring vids. Not quite sure why that is. The funny part is that I read through all the posts twice to make sure I wasn't posting recommendations already given! Regardless, the books are still worthwhile.
