You know what really grinds my gears.......

Ok so maybe I'm just a weirdo, but there's silly little things that really bug me for no apparent reason - what about the rest of you?  Is there any little thing that really annoys you, but probably shouldn't that much?

Ok I'll start:

I hate it when peolpe jiggle their legs up and down when they're sitting down.  Some people will do this continually and I HATE IT.  There's no logic to my annoyance but it really bugs me.

It also bugs me when women put their make up on on public transport - just wake up earlier if you want to wear it - and don't give people dirty looks when they stare at you.

Jesse, I'm sure you have seen that having a stroke can totally change a person's personality. I remember the vet in our town who was a tower of animal compassion, had a stroke and suddenly couldn't stand to even be around animals!
Don't feel guilty if you finally have to send her back to the home. You're not trained to handle this sort of thing and it takes some doing. Besides, as Amy says, there's the whole mother-daughter tug of war. She still sees herself as "older than you so I know better" and "you're a kid, don't try to tell me what I want/need." It's easier for her to ignore you than it would be an outsider who doesn't have the emotional element. My pastor's wife is learning this. She finally put her elderly aunt in a home and was devoured by guilt--until she saw that Aunty suddenly did all the things she refused to do at home, like her physio and stuff.

thank you so much for your support Yabbit, and yes she is definantly changed... she did eat her whole breakfast this morning!! :D and so i grabbed her some chocolate that i had hidden away for a treat for her since i know she craves it... it took a few days of stuborness of "no chocolate unless you eat" but we are on a good path. I am trying to be patient. it is hard. i will still probably have to send her to a home eventually, but I hope we can manage for a few years or so... It is hard to give someone will it has to come from within..

Wait.

So you're telling me that your toilet was clogged, and while you were out, someone in a neighboring apartment took a dump, flushed it, and said dump traveled through the sewer lines, and resurfaced in YOUR toilet?  You came home and there was an actual TURD, poo'd by third party in YOUR toilet?  And you've already eliminated the possibility of vandals and/or ninjas breaking into your home while you're away and leaving a toilet deposit?  This was someone else's turd that entered your toilet via the sewer??!!

I have to know what happens next in this story!  This is (sadly) one of the most riveting tales I've ever heard.  I can't even begin to imagine how I would cope if I were in a similar situation.  Please please please give me an update.

Jess I wish you all the best with your mom.  It is very hard taking care of a parent.  I'm happy to hear that she ate.  My dad was the opposite.  He would eat nothing but twinkies, ho hos, cupcakes, honey buns, etc.... and he had diabetes.  His sugar levels were constantly off the wall and his docs would look at me to make him eat the way he should because I was taking care of him.  It never happened.  I think it was the I know more because I'm your father thing.  Hang in there.  I know sometimes it might feel as if the world is on your shoulders and there's so much pressure and frusturation you want to explode but, in the end it is all worth it.

VH that is totally gross!!!  Makes me happy that I have my own septic tank :)

Larisueña, my suegro (who I never met) did the exact same thing. It was harder for his wife even yet because he was a 1970's Spanish man of a certain age and she was "just" his wife. Apparently he always introduced her as "the mother of my children." Which gives one furiously to think. He lived exactly 2 years after retirement because he knew more than anyone else.

WRGMG: when grocery store clerks assume that you don't want help bagging groceries because you brought your own bags. Seriously. 5 of them standing around doing NOTHING but talking while I  stood there and bagged up my own food. Even after the cashier was done ringing me up  he just stood there and watched me bag. Nice customer service! I  might call and complain later.

Dooooooo it!!  I'm a customer service police-er.  But you have to balance it out, so when you get GREAT customer service (or even just suitable customer service), you have to report that, too.

#1 When people (especially women) pee all over the toilet seat and don't clean up after themselves. I KNOW YOU KNOW YOU DID IT BECAUSE YOU FLUSHED THE TOILET AND OBVIOUSLY YOU FACED THE TOLIET TO FLUSH.

#2 When people try to trick me into eating food that has egg product in it... SRSLY WTF DO YOU WANNA GO TO JAIL???

#3 When people rinse items rather than washing them (i.e. knives, spatulas, etc). I mean really when you wash your hands do you just run your hands under water... NOOOOO!!!!! You put soap on them and wash them. I have kirked out on people when preparing my food because they somehow think washing and rinsing are synonymous.

Examples:

I go to pick up a sandwich before work one day. I walk in, before I order I tell the woman of my severe egg allergy, explain saying anything that even touches mayo, ranch, etc will make me very sick and could kill me so I ask her to use a clean/washed knife when cutting my sandwich. Everything goes good until the end when she forgets about everything I've told her and uses a knife the other woman just finishes using to cut someone else's food that was COVERED in mayo. She then has an oh crap moment looks at me looks at her coworker so I ask her to please remake my sandwich now that I can't eat it. The coworker chimes in saying it only touched the veggies, to have the girl replace them. I tell her no if it touched one thing it touched everything, to please remake my sandwich. The coworker then says the knife was clean... So now I'm pissed and I tell her it was covered in mayo, plus you can't say it only touched my veggies and then say it wasn't dirty.. She then glares at me says what I can only assume by her tone was something derogatory in another language. So I tell them to take their sandwich and shove that I'm never coming back to eat there again. My dad took me back that evening to talk with a manager, but the douchebag didn't apologize or anything. Needless to say I haven't been back and I tell my friends not to eat there either.

I go out to eat with my family on my birthday (a few years ago) to a place I hadn't ever had a problem with in the past. When we order I explain my allergy to the waitress and tell her to leave off the onion rings because they have an egg batter. Well 30 minutes passes still no food. 10 minutes later she brings out my mom's food. Another 10 minutes later she brings out my dad's food. By now I'm cranky and hungry because an hour has gone by my parents have finished eating and I still have no food. Out of the corner of my eye I see my waitress pick up my plate (with the onion rings on my food and plate) franticly removing the onion rings and bring my plate out to me. Before she reaches to the table I start shaking my head and push my chair away from the table as she sets my food down. So I tell her "you have the nerve to bring me my food wrong after waiting sooooo long, I saw you pull the onion rings off my plate, (at that time I point to my food) do you not see it has grease spots and batter crumbs all over my food and you think this is OKAY?". She asks if I want them to remake it and at first I tell her okay, but then call her back before she reaches the kitchen to forget it because I cannot trust them to not wait a few minutes and then just replate it and send it back out so I ask her to remove it from the check.

A girl offered me a cookie before school one day (when I was in high school waiting for the bus) that she made, I explain my allergies and she says they didn't contain eggs so I take one and take a bite. Right as I bite it I start having an allergic reaction she tells me haha it has eggs in it as I'm spitting it out. So I yell at her asking her WTF is wrong with you??? Luckily I was able to make it back down the street to my house to down some liquid allergy medicine before it got any worse.

What I'd like to know is if I could press charges on someone for assault with a deadly weapon/attempted murder for knowingly trying to pull a stunt like that in the future (okay so maybe I'm only have serious about that)

OMG, that's totally wrong. It's bad enough when you've explained it to someone (a food worker) and they've said, okay, we can make you some food -- and then they obviously fall back into habit, stop thinking about what they're doing, and screw up -- that might be excuseable if they apologised and fixed it. But to act like a jerk and not cooperate afterwards is unacceptable. Even worse, to knowingly, intentionally give you food that will make you ill, and laugh about it - unbelievable. I know people are stupid... I work with the public every day... and yet the depths of their stupidity can still amaze me.

When that happens to me at restaurants, I like to have a loud conversation with the manager about how their service also suggests they don't respect religious food restrictions and remind them how much trouble McDonald's got into for that.

fireworks went on sale this morning.  grrrr.  I hate them!  And it seems like every empty warehouse/car park/garage/container on the side of the road is selling them.
Sometime in the next week, dumbarse New Zealanders will sustain $1 million dollars worth of injuries, all paid for by ACC, i.e. our taxes.  I wish they would go the next step and ban this shit altogether.

I wish NZ would pass a law restricting fireworks to public displays set off by experienced people in a safe manner for the enjoyment of all.

They did, here, and it made no difference whatsoever...the sellers just went underground. Now the parents blame the Chinese shops for the contraband fireworks, but they are actually sold out the back door of newsstands etc. By Spanish people.

It's like a friend of mine trying to explain her (severe) food allergy at a restaurant and getting eyeroll and "why don't you eat at home then?"

WRGMG is people in stores etc who pretend that because I'm a foreigner they can't understand me. Suck that. I've lived here for 30 years, I'm fluent, and I KNOW I speak clearly. Happened today in the pharmacy, of all places! Asked the man 3 times for something by its brand name...he had to turn and ask his boss what I was saying!! Stupid arsewhole.

People who lie about everything, convince you that you are the crazy one for noticing the red flags, leave by giving you the silent treatment, and then act like you're some stupid fuck because you hurt. Lame.  >:(

Jess, I'm so sorry about your mom. I know what kind of strain being a caregiver can be and hope you get the help you need. You are a wonderful daughter to even try! Don't feel guilty if you need to bring her to a home. You're doing the best you can. It's a stressful job even if you are a trained caregiver and being that it's your mom, I'm sure makes it that much harder. (((hugs)))

WRGMG: Why is that some people just can't accept the fact that I love animals? Why do they assume I don't give a rat's hiney about people/children just because I have a heart for helping animals? I mean, really??? One can't love people AND animals?  :-\
