Yellow Split Pea Recipe Links Needed

I really want to make a good dahl out of this bag of yellow split peas I have laying around... I made the one in Vegan Table and didn't think it was very good...

Please share your favorite links or cookbook recipes for yellow split pea dahl... I googled but don't want to waste money and food on something that turns out gross.

Thanks in advance!

You can't go wrong with Delicious Pakistani Dahl!!

This one is good too.

I find it's good to wash your moong dahl (yellow split dahl) in a sieve before you start, and then let it soak for about 30 min. Otherwise, if you don't have time, just watch it in case you need to add more liquid while it cooks.

ETA: While I'm thinking about it, you can substitute moong dahl for red lentils in just about any red-lentil recipe. Try the Sweet Potato Dahl too.

Glad to help! Just soak your moong dal in water for about 30 min before you start and you'll be fine. And don't forget to read the comments under the recipes, there are a lot of good "tweaks" there.

These are some other recipes I have bookmarked but not yet tried. The Ethiopian dish was my favourite at a local resto, so I have been planning on recreating it at home:

I was going to suggest the Ethiopian dish kik alicha, but someone else already has. :)

I was looking through my Mediterranean cookbook the other day and noticed a Greek dip/spread recipe using yellow split peas.  I haven't tried it before, but basically you saute an onion, then add 1 1/2 cups rinsed split peas and 5 cups water.  Cook covered for 45 mins (stirring frequently), then uncover and cook another 15-20 mins, until the peas are falling apart and the sauce is reduced.  Stir in 2 Tbsp lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste, and garnish with 2 Tbsp baby capers and a drizzle of olive oil.  Serve warm or room temp.  Sounds like it might be a little bland, but it's easy and you could add more seasonings if needed.

There is a Persian dish which needs yellow split peas. There are lotsa Indian veg curries using this. I get my supply of almost all lentils incl split peas at $ 2.99 for 2 Lbs and when the deal is on, 12 lbs @ 10 dollars.(I am in Austin texas)

i actually used some this weekend (subbed them out for red lentils per yabbit's idea) in a recipe my mom gave me called something like "enchanting lentil soup"... my mom suggested subbing out some brown lentils for some of the red... dumb idea! the soup def has some major potential though...

i really wanted a spicy yellow split pea dahl type of recipe... that's why i bought them in the first place, my (ex) friends mom cooked some dank stuffs i wanted to recreate
