SO HOW'D IT GO?

Oh my. I followed the recipe exactly this morning and it turned out to be a complete disaster. I even tried two different types of bread and they both stuck to the pan and came apart and it was all just one big soggy mess.  :(

This was pretty good. I just kind of eyeballed everything so it was really easy but I will definitely be trying this again using a better, heartier bread.

I've been searching for a good vegan breakfast besides cereal! This is it! Oh...this was goodddd! I have no soymilk or sugar so I just used water oil and honey and microwaved it until the honey melted, then added a flour mixture, sweetener, and cinnamon. I mixed then I spooned some of it on my bread then fried it on a oiled pan. It took some time and the insides were a little mush because of the water...but this is definately going to be a staple. I might even use the bread as sandwich bread because it is soo yummy. I sprinkled some sweetener on top smeared on some jam and had with cranberries. Yummy!

This was really good.  It tastes better then nonvegan french toast.  I omited the sugar, used almond milk, and scaled the recipe down for 1 person.  :)  It had the perfect texture.

French toast was my favorite breakfast in my omni days.  I've seen vegan french toast recipes, but I've just never tried them.  (I was skeptical that they would taste anywhere near right without eggs.)  These were very, very good.  It's been a long time, but they taste exactly how I remember frest toast tasting.  I used fresh, thinly sliced sourdough.  (That's what I had.)  I only had plain soymilk, so I add a couple drops of vanilla.  Served with powdered sugar, earth balance and maple syrup.  Mmmmm.

As far as the trouble people have had with this recipe, there are a couple things that I know people do wrong when making any french toast, vegan or otherwise.

1.  Stale bread works better.  If you bread is fresh, toast it on the lightest setting of the toaster before proceeding.
2.  Do NOT soak the bread in the "egg" mixture. Put it in, turn it and put it directly on the pan.  If you allow the mixture to saturate the bread, it will be mushy, fall apart, and stick.
3.  Cook on low until brown.  If your pan is too hot, the center will be mushy.

I hope that helps.  Thanks for this awesome recipe!  Definte comfort food for me and so easy.
