What you need:

1/4 cup canola oil
1/3 cup water
1 cup organic sugar
1 cup organic unbleached flour
1 tablespoon ground flax seed
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix wet ingredients in large bowl, then dump in all the dry. Don't over mix.
2. Bake for about 20-25 minutes.
They're supposed to look gooey! You can even add your favorite vegan chocolate chips, add coconut, or nuts!
These are so good and normal tasting my meat-eating family couldn’t tell the difference!!!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Ok. These are awesome! I made these last night and now I'm making them again. I used egg replacer and added a touch of soy cream to the water (about 3 tablespoons). The batter was a bit dry (kind of doughy) but they still came out amazing! They are delicious warm out of the oven but completely amazing once they have been chilled (sooooo fudgy!).
Tonight I decided to add 1/2 cup of soymilk instead of the 1/4 water/soy cream mix I did last night. The batter came out that perfect consistency for brownies. They are baking right now so I don't know how the end result turned out but I will keep you posted! ;)b

Oh and I shared these with my boyfriend, just so that you don't think I'm pigging out on these all by myself!

Do you include sugar in your wet ingredients? I assume you must? (Many people do consider sugar a "wet" because it dissolves). Also, was your flax egg prepared and included in the wet? That would make 3Tbs. more liquid. I didn't do either of these and I had to add soymilk because the mixture was thick like cookie dough. I think with a little tinkering they will be fabulous. They still tasted really good even though the texture was soft.

I don't think it really matters that much, but I believe I do add the sugar with the wet ingredients. I prepare the flax egg (with the 3 tbs water), and add that to wet. I know that some people just do the dry, but I prepare the "egg." A lot of people have had issues with dough that it is too thick, but I never have. I have also used Ener-g egg several times, and it has worked perfectly fine. I like them both. Either way, I prepare the "egg," and add that to wet ingredients.

I made these and did have a question:

Also, for everyone using an egg replacer- DO NOT USE Ener-G Egg Replacer Powder for brownies! The product itself is *great* for cookies and cakes, most of them. It does NOT work well with brownies for some reason, unless you enjoy oily hockey pucks. Use flax, a banana, or even tofu. But never the Ener-G. Once again, this is only brownies I am referring to.

These were pretty good, slightly cake-y...but then when I had one the next day...MmMmMm!!!
To me, these were way better cold, they had more goooness  :)>>>
I used coconut oil instead of canola, used a little extra cocoa powder plus some carob, cut the sugar down to 1/2 C, and added about 1/3 C of chocolate chips (that's all I had). My partner loved them. I really enjoyed them, but I think I will add more chips and liquid next time, then bake them for 20 mins or less.

These were really amazing!!!

I agree with previous statements about adding a bit more water because it's a little difficult to mix up, but besides that SO AWESOME AS A CHOCOLATE TREAT! I was craving some chocolate and since most chocolate bars have milk ingredients I was finding that quite discouraging, but now that I've got my cocoa powder I'll be fine ;)

My friends loved these and they aren't even Vegan/Vegetarian! So if they can handle it anyone can ;)

THANKS,
F

This is my favorite brownie recipe!! I've seriously tried so many different ones and hated them and they never tasted like I thought brownies would taste. I subbed apple sauce for the oil and added vanilla and used soy milk instead of water. Then I ate them all really fast and needed more, so I skipped the vanilla and used orange juice instead of the water - like a chocolate orange!! They turned out so good so if you remember eating chocolate oranges this is a good way to replicate the taste!

Hmmm.. I don't know what I did wrong :( I followed the recipe exactly, but once I got the liquid and dry ingredients together, I was left with a dry, cookie-dough-like hunk of brownie that wouldn't spread out in the pan.  So I put it back in the bowl and added some soymilk and some chocolate syrup, which made it more brownie-batter-like, but I am very disappointed by how they turned out--more like dense cake tasting nothing like brownies.  They smelled delicious while baking though :) so maybe I just did something wrong with the original recipe?  :-\

:)>>> This is quite possibly the best and EASIEST brownie mix eVar!

I wasn't planning on making brownies, but when I saw your comment on the Vegweb front page I decided to check it out, and I'm so glad I did!

I used 2 T. water mixed with 2 t. baking powder for my egg replacer, and although my batter was way too thick (perhaps because I over-mixed with an egg-beater), I just added 1/4 cup water and it seemed just right.  I overcooked them a bit, I think, because they were a little tough last night, but today out of the fridge they are amazing.  Mmmm, mmm!

Very easy and very delicious, great recipe... thanks everyone!

I used soy milk instead of water and added a tsp of vanilla extract! I also added the choc chips and some nuts on top. OMG, so gooey and amazing!

The only prob I had was that the brownies stuck to the pan, even though I greased it. Next time I'll have to grease it with some earth balance instead of spray.

Loved it! My non-vegan husband loved it as well! ;)b

I just made these out of boredom and I was surprised by how good they were. I followed the recipe exactly, and the measurements seemed right on. This is my first ever vegan brownie experience, and I loved it. The only thing I'll change next time is use a smaller pan. I used a 8x8 inch pan, and they came out a little too flat. Other than that they were lovely!
