Buffalo Style Tofu
What you need:
1 pound extra firm tofu, cut into strips 1/4" thick
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/4 cup nonhydrogenated vegan margarine
1/2 cup hot sauce
What you do:
1. Sprinkle tofu with garlic powder. Spray a thin film of cooking spray on a frying pan.
2. Fry the tofu on high heat, flipping occasionally. It's done when the outside is slightly brown, or there are dark spots on it.
3. Melt the margarine in the microwave, add the hot sauce and stir. When the tofu is done place it in the sauce. Make sure the tofu is covered. If you like it hotter or milder just change the ration of hot sauce to margarine.

SO HOW'D IT GO?
Mmmmmmmm so good and spicy! Is there anything that doesn't taste good with hot sauce on it?
It's 1000 times better when you sub seitan instead of the tofu. I make this at least once a week :)
WOW! Really good!! In my opinion, better than the real thing!
absolutely LOVED it! we breaded it with an Ener G Egg Replacer 'egg wash' and cornstarch, fried it up then poured the buffalo sauce over it, gave it that crispy buffalo wing crunch with the delicious sauce!!! and of course had to make it super unhealthy with homemade potato chips! GREAT recipe! THANKS!
HOLY TOFU! Ok, this is the first dish that i've made that made me feel like I wasn't vegan...I felt like I was at Hooters, eating wings! I wished I had some beer in my fridge... I never ate wings without ranch, and I wasn't about to start tonight. I made some vegan ranch, chopped up some celery and it was amazing!!! I baked the tofu then tossed it in the sauce, I didn't even notice that it wasn't fried. :)>>>
These are sooooooooooooooooooo tasty! I seriously love these. I fried the tofu first (after cutting them into small rectangular pieces) and then melted the margarine with the wing sauce in another pan. I then drained the tofu and mixed it in with the sauce and let it cook for a while. I use FYH's Creamy Garlic dressing to dip them in... goes great with the spiciness and sort of evens it out.
Really easy and really good!
Mmm... this is yummy. I've made it with Franks and with Red Devil, both are great. It's good breaded with beer batter and panko/nut yeast. Yum yum yum. Thanks!

This recipe for Buffalo style tofu is addictive! I was raised in Niagara Falls NY which isn't too far from Buffalo, so yes I did eat Buffalo wings as a child. When I turned veg, I thought correctly that hopefully the taste could be incorporated into vegetarian dishes. Franks hot sauce really makes this dish......even my Mother who isn't a vegetarian tried this recipe and enjoyed it, which I thought given her Buffalo connections really meant something.
I just made this for my lunch. A few things I noticed.
#1. Tofu should be frozen first and defrosted then drained of all excess water. My tofu came out very spungy and I think the texture would be better if it were less watery, besides the water stared to leak and make in nearly impossible to brown.
#2. The garlic powder clumped in the cooking process, most likely due to the moisture.
#3. I think this would work much better if the tofu was deep fried, while even worse for you.
The idea is great and it still tastes great! I used a spicy peanut sauce instead of Frank's Red Hot. I added it on top of some brown rice and put some cilantro on the side.
Heaven!
