I loved this recipe....it was a fabulous dinner for my husband and I, who are in transition from being vegetarians to vegans. I am so excited to eat it for dinner tomorrow as well.
This was a nice recipe, I added a bit more mustard, soy sauce, chili powder, and added in some ketchup. But other than that it was really good. :-D
These were awesome! ;)bThe omnivores were also pleased. There was tons left over which we will have for dinner again tonight.
My variations:
Jar of Organic Mushroom flavored tomato sauce
2 shakes of Frank's Buffalo
small can of mild green chilies
1 t cayenne
Didn't miss the meat at all.
I am so happy to have found this site. You guys make it so easy to GO VEG!
I didn't prepare the tvp at first...I tried to mix all the ingredients together on the side and then add it to the frying pan, but my tvp wasn't softening up in the tomato sauce so I added a cup of water. It didn't get really soft until it was added to the frying pan though (which is fine, of course). With the extra water it was the perfect thickness. I really liked this recipe. The only prob I had with it was that it made a tonne, but I'll just half the recipe next time.
I have made this many times & I have never re-hydrated the tvp. With all that tomato sauce it soaks right up & becomes a little thick. Which is just the way I like it. Great recipe.
I rehydrated mine first....I tend to pour boiling water over the required amount (about an inch over), leave for 5-10mins and then drain it befre adding to the rest of the ingredients. Hope this helps.
so are we supposed to rehydrate the tvp or not? Someone gave directions how to do so, so I am assuming I am supposed to? I hope I get an answer before I make dinner tonight or there is a 50/50 chance it might not work out, haha.
So so good!! I added black beans, grated carrot, cinnamon, cumin, chili flakes, and balsamic vinegar. Ate it over toasted whole wheat English muffins. YUM!!
Oh man!!! This stuff was so good!!! I just made it for dinner and served it on the Burger Buns http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=15153.0 from this site (which came out fabulously also), whacked some tomato sauce, non-dairy spread and soy cheese on top, and it was good to go!!! When I was cooking it I also added a can of 3 bean mix and some vege gravy as well to give it a bit more substance. Oh and garlic of course because I'm addicted to the stuff!!! Thank you so much for such a fab recipe!!!! :)>>> :)>>> :)>>> (oh and I was going to take a lovely little picture after I'd taken a bite but once I'd had one bite I kinda couldn't stop so I'll have to try and take one tomorrow night before I devour the rest!!!)
