Textured Soy Protein Sloppy Joes

What you need:

2 small-medium green peppers
2 medium or 4 small onions
1 1/2 cup boiling water
2 1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 1/2 cup textured soy protein
2 tablespoon mustard (or more)
2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon or so of soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon sugar (I use Sucanat)

What you do:

In a very large covered frying pan, saute onions and peppers in water. When mostly cooked, add remaining ingredients and stir well. Cook on medium for 20 minutes, covered, stirring occasionally. When done, serve over toast, english muffins, or rice.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Very, very good. I was a little worried about adding the soy sauce and the mustard... but they really did the trick!

These were fantastic! We used tempeh instead because it's what we had on hand, and we forgot the sugar  ::) oops. But still. Mmmmm. Thanks so much for an easy sloppy joe recipe! Its my first time having one in 3 years!

I've never had sloppy joes before but this were amazing!!! I don't know if they are suppose to taste like sloppy joes but they taste awesome! I made them for my sister and she is a really picky eater, but she loved them...we had them for dinner, and then the next day for lunch....and to be honest, I'm craving some right now hehe ;D

These werent bad, they definately have excellent potential. I don't know why I'm not completely satisfied, especially since my husband went for seconds. I will try switching up the seasoning a bit next time.

Great recipe! I made these for my family's fourth of July get together and everyone loved them! They are hard to please if they are not eating meat so I was quite happy that they enjoyed them. :)

So I am eating this right now over some very dense wheat bread. Topped with vegan sour cream and vegan cheese.  This is my first experience with TVP so I will see how it works with my tummy, in the future though I could see subbing tempeh, gluten or even tofu crumbled into this.  It tastes very good, definitely needs more spice but I love spicy foods.  My omni husband will definitely eat it, It did make WAAAAY too much food.  However I think I will just freeze individual serving size amounts for later use.  The texture is good, even thought it could be a bit more liquidy. Next time I think  I will also use some bar-b-que sauce or liquid smoke for an even better flavor.  The only sub I made was red pepper instead of green since it was all I had and I used only 1/4 of an onion because my husband is not a onion fan.

All and all its good.  Needs some tweaking and I will see how it is on my tummy.

This was awesome!  I never liked sloppy joes but figured I would try this anyways and I am glad I did.  I subbed red onion for the green pepper and added 3 cloves of garlic.  I used 1 tsp of chili pepper and couldn't imagine using more - I love spicy food but my chili pepper is VERY hot and 2 tsp would be way too much!

OMG!  This is one of my staple recipes and it's very forgiving for whatever is on hand.  Once I even threw in spaghetti sauce in lieu of the tomato sauce because I already had some opened....always delicious and so EASY!  My husband loves it and I think he assumes it takes much longer than it really does  ^-^

This was so good. I used Morning Star Grillers Crumbles instead of the soy protein. I omitted the water and sauteed the onions/peppers in a bit of oil first. After adding everything else, I added about 1/2 cup of water and a squirt of ketchup and let it simmer. Delicious on whole wheat buns!

made these tonite for my mom and i for dinner and YUM...used canned diced tomatoes for the sauce, and scaled it down for just 2 people and still had leftovers...also subbed crumbled tempeh for the TVP and added chopped mushrooms and a tid bit of chopped spinach at the end...stuffed in a pita made a delish dinner...next time will use the tomato sauce to get more of the "sloppy joe" effect, but still very good....thanks:)
