Simple Sweet & Sour

What you need: 

Sauce:
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/4 cup vinegar (I used rice vinegar)
1/4 cup vegetable broth
1 tablespoon corn starch
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon minced ginger Stir fry:
1/2 red onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup carrots, chopped
1/2 yellow bell pepper, chopped
1 yellow zucchini, chopped
3 cups mushrooms, chopped
1 handful snow peas
2 tablespoons broth or oil

What you do: 

1. For sauce, mix together the soy sauce, vinegar and vegetable broth. Separately, mix together the corn starch and the brown vegan sugar.
2. Add the corn starch mixture to the liquids. Add in the ginger, and set this mixture aside.
3. Saute the vegetables in the broth or oil. Just before the vegetables are cooked, add in the sauce mixture and saute for an additional 2 minutes.
I served this over brown rice. It looked as good as it tasted.'

I made this yesterday and I'm so excited that I can now successfully make sweet & sour stirfry! That's so amazing. I used brown vinegar because I didn't have rice vinegar, but otherwise I stuck to the recipe. Doubled it though, seeing that I was making a huge stirfry for five people.

There are many things I love about this site. But bar none the two top things are that these recipes are from common folks who love to be in the kitchen and the fact that you can read what others have done and go from there.

I followed this recipe by the book and did double it like some had said. GREAT advice. We too like our stir fries saucy. We were not disappointed. Make this and make it often.

i'm eating this right now and it's fantastic. i added some garlic and red pepper flakes and served it with steamed broccoli and fried tofu. i will definitely make this again.

This is awesome.  My boyfriend said it tastes just like the sweet and sour stuff you can get at Chinese restaurants.  Nom nom nom:)

This was good!  I used it as more of a base and added more garlic, but I really enjoyed it!

really good recipe.  Ease in preparation is imprtant to me.  I doubled the recipe, and put "play chicken" pineapple snap peas carrots and corn.  I also used a little more cornstarch, which made it more of a glaze. Thanks for the recipe.

I added some fried tofu and it came out very good and filling. Honestly, I was a little skeptical when I smelled it cooking (it smelled very strongly of the rice vinegar, which reminds me of sake), but it tasted delicious anyway and was very colorful as well.

I added two cloves of garlic and a dash of red pepper flakes, I also used green onions(two small, chopped). I served it on sautéed tofu with broccoli and red bell pepper, over rice. I know, not much like the original recipe, but it was *so* good!
