Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution!?

I just started seeing commercials for this. I don't even know who he is, but he's going into school cafeterias and revamping the menus.
I have high hopes, but then I also have a feeling he might be like, "let's BAKE this chicken, not FRY it!"...or "cheese pizza for everyone!". Or, "McDonald's is OK if you only have it ONCE per week!"

It starts March 26. I need to do more research, I guess, but looks promising! I think it might be a series?
I found this website:

http://www.jamieoliver.com/campaigns/jamies-food-revolution

That would explain his face.

Did anyone else catch last night's show? The school board "nutritionist" actually told him that his 7 veggie stir fry didn't have enough veggies so they made him serve french fries with it because......french fries are a VEGETABLE! That is so jacked up! What is wrong with this nutritionist and the crazy guidelines she came up with for this school district.

It's a shame that THIS (the very point of the show) is being lost in the politics of who, how, when, why someone is trying to fix things.  I don't doubt that Jamie Oliver (...and Ryan Seacrest......agh) got quite a lot of money from this show, to add to his (their) already impressive Himalayan-esque mountains of cash, but I do think Jamie Oliver cares.  His emphasis was never on making health food, it was making food that was delicious and free of crap.  He's doing the same thing here.  It's unfortunate because media can be one of the biggest influences, positive or negative, on change.  I think this is one of the few shows that's actually getting the "let's get healthy" trend in media right.

Just in passing, GuitarChick, are you at all aware of the irony of making your first post on VW to criticise me for criticising someone on the media?  :-D :-D

My point was not to criticize you, but when someone speaks up about someone else because they don't dress/look like everyone else- I guess that sort of thing rubs me the wrong way. :-\

Sorry that I came off the way that I did.

I watched the latest episode on hulu and all of the commercials were for processed foods.

It's fine, those chips are made of corn, which counts as a vegetable, and then fried in corn oil, which counts as another vegetable.

i wish i could get over the lisp.

Yeah, he's a leeeetle too old to be pushing the "boyish gaptoothed grin, touseled hair, lithpy teen" thing. And I wish to goodness he'd either grow a beard or learn to shave. He looks like he's been sleeping in his clothes for three days and just woke up.

I think what he's doing is great, and just what America needs. I don't see how insulting his personal style is necessary... And just how old do you think he is? Doesn't look very old to me.

I did say that i wished *I* could get over the lisp....because I realize it's my issue (i did not say that asshole has a lisp so he is not worth listening to). I like some of what he has to say, but I find myself focusing on the lisp-hence the reason I stated that I wish *I* could get over the lisp, and not that I wish he did not have a  lisp.

Actually, I heard about him doing this in England years ago with a great deal of success.  I'm really excited that he's here doing this.  I've seen his shows and he makes some tasty vegetarian foods, even though he isn't a vegetarian chef.

I've seen the show, and I don't know what "insulting personal style" is referred to by a previous poster.  I think he's been quite cordial. He has to respond to resistance, and he is simply pointing out to people that the food they've been eating is going to kill them.  If you want to see an insulting personal style, watch "You Are What You Eat" on BBC America some time.  That woman is really mean to people sometimes, but she gets great results from them.  I must say, I saw the first episode and was as shocked as he was that they were actually feeding these kids sausage and pepperoni pizza for breakfast.  I didn't eat pizza for breakfast until I reached college age, and I don't recommend it.  It is something that you do when you wake up with a hellish hangover and just grab anything starchy to try and absorb the alcohol remaining in your belly.

Anyway, I say way to go Jamie Oliver!  I hope it takes off.

That is really ironic.  I think that there are a lot of unhealthy food ads on the TV version, too.  I generally leave the room during commercial breaks, so I can't be sure.

yabbit and I were said to have insulted Jamie's personal style (the lisp and the unshowered look). Not Jamie insulting people.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood the prior post.

I'm not sure if it went down or no.  That was the first show.  I think they chose to edit the show that way to make it interesting.

Episode 1:  Optimism faces off with resistance.
Episode 2:  Change over to his way, met with resistance.
Episode 3:  Resistance, but glimmer of change.
Episode 4:  People accept change.
Episode 5:  Town orgy.

Right on track.

Every time Jamie Oliver says, "brother," it reminds me of Alex in A Clockwork Orange.

Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well.

I think he makes some very good points. The scary thing is that cafeteria food looks exactly like it did when I went to high school in the 1980s!! No wonder I went vegetarian then to drive my parents nuts. LOL
