Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution!?

I just started seeing commercials for this. I don't even know who he is, but he's going into school cafeterias and revamping the menus.
I have high hopes, but then I also have a feeling he might be like, "let's BAKE this chicken, not FRY it!"...or "cheese pizza for everyone!". Or, "McDonald's is OK if you only have it ONCE per week!"
It starts March 26. I need to do more research, I guess, but looks promising! I think it might be a series?

It's enough to give one hope.
It's not new; he's been sounding off about this for the last couple years. But, surprise-surprise, he is also using the publicity to sell a cookbook....he acts like some sort of self-elected "keeper of the public health" while at the same time doing TV commercials for a UK supermarket chain. It's all about the money, really.
I find him intensely irritating.

This is on right now. I need to go to bed, but I want to stay up and watch it. The food in the WV cafeteria looks just like what they serve at my school. :(

I just watched the first episode. Crike! A lot of the fittest cities in the US are in the west, so my context is people eating right and being fit. I had no idea school kids got food like that in other parts of the country. Gross!

That food is what we were fed in one of CA's 'Blue Ribbon' f*ckin rich ass school districts!!! I am soooo glad I couldn't eat that stuff!

I actually remember eating the same shit... we ate our own breakfast at home but lunch at school... the only veggies i remember eating were ice berg lettuce and french fries...
The people at that school disgusts me... They seriously believe that they are feeding kids good food... And of course give a kid a choice between pizza or something healthy... of course they will choose what tastes better not what is good for their health!
I noticed this thread but only just realised this was a new show based in America, I just assumed you were talking about the UK show screening in the states.
Yeah, Jamie's not veg, and cooks lots of meaty food, but he's got some good ideas.
Also check out Jamie's 'Ministry of Food'. He went to one of the unhealthiest towns in the UK and tried to teach ordinary people who have never cooked a meal in their life how to start cooking. One woman actually said 'the water's bubbling. does that mean it's boiling?' And she was not at all joking.

I'm not sure if it went down or no. That was the first show. I think they chose to edit the show that way to make it interesting.
Episode 1: Optimism faces off with resistance.
Episode 2: Change over to his way, met with resistance.
Episode 3: Resistance, but glimmer of change.
Episode 4: People accept change.
Episode 5: Town orgy.
haha yup, and cynicism wins in the end.
I read that article in the Indi the other day and it sounds as if the US will be a tough nut to crack. He's not veggie by any stretch of the imagination, he's banging on about real food, i.e. cooked from scratch not that processed stuff. His <3 is in the right place: he went on a crusade to improve school dinners here in the UK a few years back and was met with resistance but I think he did make a difference. He also opened up a chain of restaurants ("fifteen" I think its called) getting young adults who felt they had relatively little opportunity into cooking and professional catering. He's an alright geezer ... now if only we could turn him on to veggie heaven full time ... I wonder how much resistance he'd put up?

Yeah, he's a leeeetle too old to be pushing the "boyish gaptoothed grin, touseled hair, lithpy teen" thing. And I wish to goodness he'd either grow a beard or learn to shave. He looks like he's been sleeping in his clothes for three days and just woke up.
