SmartWater

So, I'm trying to break the whole water bottle addiction- buuuuuut, Ive been feeling like crap lately and some people I have spoken with said that it sounded like my electrolytes were off...obviously the suggestion was that i drink gatoraide....Well, the truth is that the calories in gatoraide frighten me..(I know its only like 60 per 8 oz, but I never understood the whole drinking calories Idea, personally) besides, has anyone else noticed how salty gatoraide tastes??? So i tried some smartwater and I actually feel a little better, less foggy headed and shaky...humm.

How do I calculate how many onces of water I'm supposed to drink in day? this was 33.8 oz....

The more the better--and SmartWater is sooo good! I am trying to break my bottled water habit too--but Smartwater just calls my name it is soooo yummmy, and yah--gateraid is gross!  :P

my smart water was not the colorful kind though...I looked at those...but 50 cals...you know...Also wondered how those flavored ones taste...like fruit I guess, but what sort of fruit, fake fruit or real fruit?

drink half your weight in ounces.  For ex. if you weigh 150lbs drink 75oz of water a day.

I will tell you from experience the body knows the difference between pure water and flavored drinks.  I wouldn't count  the smart water as water...it has a lot of sugar..no??

Also, its hot now so you definitely need to drink a lot of water.  From doing juice fasts (drinking only juice and water) I really learned the body needs more water than you think.  At least mine does.  Sometimes I drink over a 100oz a day...which I NEVER did before my juice fast.

Not drinking enough makes you sluggish and headachey as well.

oh thats not as much as I thought Id have to do...humm. Okay. i know that being dehydrated can cause all sorts of badness...I keep thinking about getting one of those camel packs adn drinking continually throughout the day...Im sooo bad at drinking water. I love to but..haha. I think Im one of the only people I know who has a hard time coming to terms with that. I think its all seeded in my fear of public bathrooms... ???

its important too, that you don't overload on the water....b/c you can cause the electolytes to go out of balance, and get water posoning. it depends on how active and how hot it is as to how much you need.
while gatorade is good, to a point, you need the sodium , etc...but  i feel the same way w/ you ...its soooo sweet and i dont dig the liquid calories... but pedialyte is a good alternative. its waaaay less calories,  but its still sweet, so i water it down too.

remember...we want CLEAR PEE! ;D

If you need electrolytes and don't want to use bottled water, you could try filling up a 32-ounce Nalgene with water and electrolytes.  A smidgen of Real Salt (minimally processed sea salt) adds chloride, salt substitute adds potassium, and baking soda adds bicarbonate.  You don't need so much that you can taste it, but if you want, you can add an herbal tea or squeeze a fruit into it, so that whatever you put in it is still really watered down.  It's not medical advice (you're more of an expert in the field of health), but it is a cheap source of electrolytes.

I prefer the regular water too--that was just the best pic I could find  :-\ The flavored water always leeaves a weird after taste no matter what brand!

I think people are confusing Smart Water with Vitamin Water.
But yes, nice flashy pics Capture :)

Smart Water is just plain old clear water with electrolytes.  No flavors.  No calories.

You know what I do...when I first get up a drink a very large glass of water probably 25oz....quickly.

It helps after not drinking after the whole noght and can also help with....uhh going to the bathroom.

I do this at work too when I forget to drink and try to drink 16oz of water in the car on the way home as well.

I think the 'drinking half your weight in ounces' thing is a minimum requirement.

As an Arizonan dying in this hot weather, I drink 2 to 4L per day, which is like 65-135oz. Granted, I bike 7 miles to and from work and spend my day cleaning up after and playing with dogs and cats, so I probably sweat a good portion of it off, but just keep the heat in mind. I have a water bottle that is 1L, so I can keep track of how much I drink each day. The days that I work and only get 2L in me, I feel like crap because I'm dehydrated. I also usually pack something salty in my lunch because of the sweating. So far, so good  :)

yes, I suppose you are right...I bet I do sweat most of it. maybe if I get a cathiter put in I wont restrict what i drink so much...it could be why Im feeling crappy... :-X

Yeah, I seriously pee a lot, but it's reassuring when the pee is light in color--I can tell I've had a 3-4L day--as opposed to my 1-2L days of yellow pee. OK, TMI about urine, but really, that's a good test of your water intake. No one's pee should look like lemon-lime Gatorade--it should resemble good ol' fashioned lemonade.

I love that recipe - I found one online that was basically just this.  You can also use a small amount of OJ for the potassium, which also adds a tiny bit of sugar if you've been active.  I use mineral salt from the bulk bins because it adds iodine and other trace minerals/metals.  It's pretty tasty, but a bit saltier in taste so be careful.

Does smartwater have B vitamins in it?  It may be that you need more B vitamins.  We are not culturally obsessed with B vitamins because the majority can overdose on it in one bite (exaggeration), so it's easy to forget them!  I hate taking B supplements because it seems like all I do is pee them out,  but sometimes I need to take them for a few weeks to get back on track.  I'd try that, just to be safe!  I get shaky and exhausted when I spend a few weeks with omni's and have to struggle for food.  >P

I frequently drink a gallon of water during the day (128 oz).  I am pretty active though.  I know what you mean about "drinking calories."  I hate doing that (unless it's beer) ::)

Coconut water is also chock full of electrolytes. It doesn't really taste, very strongly, of coconut. I don't like coconut at all, and can drink this very easily. It's all natural too (obviously). I usually have it right after my run.

It does have calories in it, but I can't remember how much. Not too much, I think, as it doesn't even come close to the amount I burned after running.

I like to buy coconut water in the summer after I walk to the health food store.  It enables me not to feel quite so exhausted afterwards, so it's definitely a great trade-off to the other alternative, buying a gallon of gas.

The kind I buy has 152 calories per liquid pint.  Not bad, I definitely burn more than that just walking to and from the store (with groceries).  Pediatricians recommend coconut water for re-hydration where it's cheaper than other juices and cleaner than water.

It doesn't taste like coconut because it comes from green, young coconuts and doesn't contain the "meat".  Coconut water has a lot of trace nutrients and stuff.  I looked up the nutrition content, but couldn't link directly to the FNIC results, so if you guys aren't familiar with the food composition site, the link is here: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/.  You can look up a lot of different kinds of food there...it's a very useful site for nutrients that don't get a lot of attention.

Also, I made a comment before about B vitamins....I was thinking of Vitamin Water, I think.
