Periods

Okay, this is kind of personal, but I need to know from all you other ladies out there.  I am late on my period.  (I am NOT preggers, takes a man to make that happen, unless it is immaculate conception, ha ha!  I have no man in my  life, except my 2 year old son, he is the only man for me ;))  My period is  normally clockwork, every 28-29 days.  But this month I started back to being vegan again (almost exclusevly, have cheated 3 times only) and now my period is 2 days late.  Is this normal?  Just wondering.  I am not worried, I was just wondering if anybody else had this happen?

This for some odd reason happened to me too. I went vegan about 6 months ago and my period did weird things to me. It actually skipped a month and i make sure to get all my vitamins, minerals and proteins. But for some reason it has stopped coming at the usual time. Usually it's around the 25th but last month it came at the 13th and this month it came around the 18th. I'm open for suggestions on what's happening too?

I started today, 3 days late.  I thought maybe it was anemia, but I have no  other symptoms of that, and if that was the case, I wouldn't have started at all, would I have? Other then that, it seems perfectly normal.

Maybe our bodies have grown dependent on the hormones present in meat and dairy (artificial and natural) and when those hormones are removed from the diet, our bodies have a bit of a hard time regulating them itself.

IDK, just a guess.  Kind of weird though.  Before, you could set your watch by my biological schedule, now I am 3 days late....weird.  Sounds as if I am not the only one this happened to.

BrittanyBear, did your eventually regulate or are they still erratic?

It's probably a normal and good thing because meat and dairy are really the things that wreak havoc with your hormones.

Still erratic. I'm considering going to my sister-in-laws mother, who is a natural doctor to see if there's something wrong. I've had a hard time with my Iron and Zinc levels but i'm not for sure if that has anything to do with it? It may be because i'm on a raw diet at the moment but still, it's slightly worrying.

I told my mom about me skipping my period because well she's older and i thought she might know and she started freaking out over the phone because she thought i was pregnant, silly mother.

Do you think it could be because i've gone vegan and maybe my bodies not use to it? Or it's trying to get rid of all the dairy products? Hm, i hope there's nothing seriously wrong.

@Willowbeez, you may be right but i'm a paranoid kind of person so i'll need some facts and proof before i believe anything yet. Could a blood test tell me if something was wrong?

I would be willing to be that dairy has a lot to do with it, honestly.  I mean, cows, just like humans, put all kinds of hormones and stuff into their milk for the benefit of the baby.  I have heard that human breast milk has a lot of estrogen in it, why would cows be any different?  Milk is there to help the baby of the mother grow up strong and healthy, cows milk is there to help a baby cow go from a 50lb newbown to a 500lb bull (?, not sure about the weights here but you see my point).  Those claims that milk helps a person to loose weight is so counter intuitive...

Brittany, do you work out?  I have heard that excercise can do a lot to a womans menstral cycle.  I just started a work out routine two weeks ago, started weight lifting last week, and I am wondering that that has more to do with me being 3 days late then my diet?

Has anyone had any positive changes to their menstrual cycles going vegan? I have read both sides, miraculous cure stories then stories of cycles being thrown way off. I was semi-vegetarian for a year before taking the plunge 3 weeks to try 100% vegan. 2 main reasons was I had a bout of parasitic colitis that lasted 1.5 years (that thank God went away with meds and I've been fine for several months) so I am for dang sure going to take care of my colon from here out, and the second reason being I started having period problems during my colitis bout and am still having problems. Super light, brown colored and strange smelling (not normal) when I lost a ton of weight being sick, now extreme cramps that have me bed ridden doubled over almost fainting and vomiting. Also a host of other crazy symptoms: sore throat, heartburn, diarrhea...my hormones just go wild.

I have a bad family history of endometriosis: great-grandma who had radiation packs for extreme bleeding, grandmother and aunt had hysterectomies, now my Mother has extreme cramps and had a 3 week period. She is also trying a vegan diet. Apparently a distant cousin of ours (in her early 50s) was having the same problem and went vegan and it cured her. Gosh dang I am praying a vegan diet will work and I don't have to go through all that.
