What moves you?

I was thinking about this topic when I was driving home tonight. What moves you? Sure..a lot of us post what grinds our gears or makes us smile, frown, proud, and feel slanty. But what moves you? What, at the end of the day, touches your core and refreshes you?

Is there an object? A quote? An action? A song? A memory? What moves you to have that moment of inner peace..where things are aligned? Obviously, these things can change based on where you are that day or time in your life. I'll start.

Two things for today:

1) I listened to Barber's "Adagio for Strings" again tonight. Each time I listen to it, it just reaches me and will sometimes move me to tears. It just helps me sigh and realize it's okay.

2) I've posted my anger with my dad here in the forums. Tonight he called me and we talked. He's moved to another state and to another company because he wanted to change his direction and outlook on life. It's hard to fully describe. But, for once, my dad said "yes" to life and chose to go for it.

As I thought about this topic and the news of my dad challenging himself to get out of his rut, it moved me. My dad sounded so happy on the phone. He's scared it won't work but he's ready for the challenges. At this moment in time, I'm actually proud of my dad.

Algae, thanks for that. It is indeed moving, and puts paid to the myth that Japanese people don't have any emotions etc. The part where he goes into the bathroom to find the little boy is just wonderful. Not "don't cry" but "this is no place to cry, it's smelly."

You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it. I know, that scene was so touching. And you're right; it was definitely interesting to see so much emotion there when we think of the stereotype that Japanese people are so stoic. My bf was saying that he is interested to know what the other teachers think of this teacher. And I was wondering how these children are all grown up. I imagine they will be wonderful human beings.

I watched the video, but didn't post anything.  I did, however, go looking for the whole show.  I added the space in front of youtube, so the videos would all automatically insert themselves.  That'd be a long post.

There are a couple of songs that move me. It's weird, because they make me feel really sad, but they're about things I can't entirely relate to, and the ones that are instrumental don't bring up particular sad memories/thoughts. Just sadness.
It's kind of odd, because I enjoy that sadness now and then. Like some sort of joy out of fully living or feeling or whatnot.

Just watched a French documentary, Anne Frank: After the Diary.
I can hardly breathe.
Having read her diary so many times...to see photographs and film of her friends, her father, her protectors...mercy.

We must never allow such things to happen again. Do you hear me? Never.

I've been really moved by the song "New Low" by Middle Class Rut. I've been feeling really sorry for myself lately, and it just really rings true to how I feel about myself and my future...

I sound really emo here, don't I? :)

Thank you for sharing, Ms. VeganRun. Excellent song. :)

I'm going to be self-centered and say that I like this thread. :P

"Creep" sung by Vega Choir written by Radiohead

This song kicked my chest yesterday and took me back to my depression days. BUT! I saw the red flags, separated myself, and defiantly got back up. I refuse to swim in the awfulness that I used to drown. I've come too far!!

Honesty moves me. Even the devastating kind. That a person living in my city would lay aside the accepted social platitudes and tell me the truth, with no attempt to be unkind. Honesty can be helpful, if you don't realise what is going on.

Friends who will take you in when you've nowhere else to go.  Even if it IS the middle of the night.

WMM:  The amazing wildlife around Our property out here in rural Georgia, and those fine moments when the creatures come up and interact with Us...
We have a bunch of wall lizards that skit about on the sides of the barn, but they're usually not too social. Last summer, We had a little lizard that hung out in the old iron bathtub outside the barn. He was skittish at first...but as the weeks went on, it got to where I could pet his cute little head when he was perched on the side of the tub (waiting for me to come visit him, I presumed).
Spring and Summer always bring about dozens (hundreds?) of tiny hopping toads alllll over the place. It's actually kind of tricky to walk around after a rain without stepping on one  :-\  For the most part, though, We enjoy their company. Most of them hop away when You get too close, but a few will let You come up and pet them.

Last night, We were visited by TWO Luna Moths on Our front porch....

http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/qq198/carrot_wench/Luna-doorframeCU2.jpg

....one of them got spooked when I tried to pet it, fluffing out his/her wings to display the "eyes" on the lower ones. But the other was quite chill, and James got to pet him/her a bit. They're so fuzzy and cute!
I feel pretty honored that these moths came to hang out on Our porch. Maybe We'll see them again soon...
