Natural "hand deoderizer"

OK, I would have sent this as a "Non-food Recipe" but really it's just a hint. Someone here mentioned in the "gadget" thread the need for a garlic press, citing the smell (I need one but because DH likes the taste of garlic in his food, but loses his rag when he actually finds a piece!).

This works to clean your hands of any smelly substance, whether it be garlic, fish (ugh, I know, but sometimes when you live with omnis), or even--burnt wiring. (Don't ask me how I know that).

Wet your hands, and then rub well with a good quantity of sea salt. Really scrub! Then rinse. You can use soap after if you want. The smell is gone!
As you can see, I would feel a bit silly posting this as a "recipe."

I find those stainless steel "credit card shaped" things work well for onions! Or any stainless steel really...
But never for garlic.... so i will try the salt, thanks!!!!!

Anything made of stainless steel will take away the smell of garlic or onions...  I do it all the time...  I think I learned about this on "Good Eats" (gotta love Alton Brown), he said it breaks the molecular bond of the smelly food attached to your skin.  All I know it that it really does do the trick!  They actually sell stainless steel "bars" in kitchen stores in the shape of soap, but any kitchen utensil made of SS will work...  Just rub your hands over it under cool running water...  Ta da!  8)

Maybe they do in the States, never seen such a thing here. For the rest of the world, there's salt. 8)

Haha... I was the one who referred to the smelly garlic, only because a few days ago I had been chopping garlic for one dish and mindlessly went to go make some truffles... the garlic didn't get in the truffles, but when I was licking the chocolate off my hands after all this, there it was!  :P

Will try stainless steel/salt. Though I must say I now perversely kind of enjoy it...

I use a little bit of olive oil with the sea salt and then rub it into my hands. I guess the olive oil isn't needed. But I have dry hands, and the olive oil feels nice on my skin. And it smells good, too. I love olive oil.

I rub my hands with a stainless steel spoon, and the smell disappears.
