Newbie here

Hi everyone! I'm new to vegweb and new to vegan life having made the switch from a very carnivorous omnivore to mostly vegan about 6-7 weeks ago. I originally made the change for health reasons after reading The China Study, but in the past few weeks I've been starting to really see the animal cruelty aspect and I can't believe I was part of supporting that for so long.  :( My couches and car interior are leather, and no I won't get rid of those things because they are new (this year) and too expensive for me to replace right now, but wow--I just see them so differently than I used to.I guess that's why I only claim to be mostly vegan. From here on out, though, I won't knowingly support any of it.

I have two young kids and I'm a stay at home mom/full time student. My husband and kids are omnivores but I'm working on that. So far I have loved the recipes I've found here and can't wait to try more! Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome.

Personally I don't think it's fair to call yourself "mostly vegan" just because you had leather in your home prior to going vegan.  I have a very nice leather easy boy chair that my ex bought years ago that I refuse to get rid of.  I don't think that makes me any less vegan today.  Just my opinion.

Nice to have you with us.

Welcome to the wonderful world of veganism and vegweb! Sounds like you've been doing well with the transition. If you cook for your family and you make the awesome vegan food on here you shouldn't have much trouble getting them to like vegan food too!

Everything is a process and revolutions do not always happen overnight. I wish you luck with your new lifestyle and I agree with the recipes on here being awesome! It's helped me build up my confidence cooking in the kitchen that's for sure :) And the leather issue is a tough one for me. I don't personally own leather items because they are expensive but often wonder why they are so expensive with the amount of cows slaughtered daily for meat. And at the same time while I probably will never own any leather at least the cow's being closer to wholly used (unless they use different cows for leather other than the meaty ones?) Meh, one day at a time---hope to see you around!!!

Thanks everyone!

Tweety--maybe a bit unfair--you're right. I've just heard of vegans getting rid of everything animal related once they made the transition, so I thought maybe I wasn't hardcore enough to call myself a vegan. This is all new to me, but I'm learning and loving it!  :)

Hey NVM! Welcome and congrats on your new veganism  :)>>>. There's lots of parents around here if you want to chat or get any input on kid-friendly vegan choices.
