Hey I'm new!

Hey everyone!
I've just started the whole vegan thing, and have already been one for two weeks!

After suffering from a lot of health problems this year, I had a lot of medical testing done. I was very ill for awhile and suffered from a lot of digestional problems which interfered with my life and my training (as I am an athlete). I found out that I was severely allergic to milk and eggs. Since I had to give these up, I felt like I was already going towards a vegan lifestyle.

Not too long after finding out my allergy diagnosis, I also found out that I had tested positive for a parasite. And not long after this diagnosis, I read Jonathan Safran Foer's "Eating Animals". That book changed my life. I believe that the parasite came from eating undercooked fish, and that, along with what Foer states about how we do not really know what is in our food (especially meat), REALLY opened my eyes.

I've already tried out some recipes here and found them to be DELICIOUS!

I can totally relate with you about the stomach issues!!  I have had severe problems for about 14 years.  Finally, after years of unsuccessful treatments and diets I decided to go vegan Jan. 1 of this year.  Ever since then I have felt a million times better!!!  I am glad you decided to become vegan!! Welcome!!

Eating Animals was the hardest book to read but soooooo amazing. The part about the oceans really got to me. Congrats on becoming vegan, we are pretty much the best so you'll fit in around here :)

welcome to veg web! i had stomach issues for years before going vegan. i could feel a huge difference in the first couple of weeks and it continues to improve, i hope you find the same.

Great to meet you. It is fortunate you are vegan now but unfortunate on how you reached your destination. Your story goes hand in hand with what I tell people all the time. It is no accident that so many people are lactose intolerant, we all are but some people have more subtle symptoms than others. And parasites in meat is almost a common occurrence. I remember a science project I did in grade school with placing a piece of pork in a jar of vinegar or oil and how a week or two later countless maggots and worms manifested in the jar from seemingly nowhere. It was part of the meat the whole time and part of most meat everywhere. Think about walking past a dead animal on the side of the road or where ever and all of the parasites and the decomposition taking place. This decomposition is still going on even after we process, package, refrigerate, freeze, cook, consume, and digest the rotting decaying flesh. I look forward to getting better acquainted.
