Vegan Eats in San Francisco

I left the non-veg wife at home and I'm in San Francisco right now with my 14 year old daughter. This is a 3 day vegan eating trip. Every meal we are having is vegan. We ate at Gracias Madre for lunch and just returned from the Millenium for dinner. We are on the top floor of the Hotel Tomo, in a corner room, with an amazing view of the city lights. All is good!

Get a vegan pizza at Amici's (there's one on King, and one on Lombard), get a raw cheesecake at Cafe Gratitude (8th & Irving), get some fake meaty asian food at Golden Era, get some creative vegan Japanese food at Cha Ya, get some rockin' seitan sandwiches at Weird Fish, get ice cream sundaes at Maggie Mudd, and there's a Thai place called Chili Lemonm Garlic that apparently can use fake meats in any of their dishes (never had it though).

Oh, and there is definitely a sausage place on Haight (right next to Toronado, which has an excellent selection of Microbrew stuff if you're into beer) that has a vegan sausage.

Thanks for the recommendations.

We are eating at Dosa for dinner tomorrow. We had breakfast at Herbivore this morning. A vegan pizza from Extreme Pizza for lunch and dinner at Ananda Fuara. We drove by Maggie Mudd yesterday before we checked into the hotel but they didn't open until 3PM. We will hit it on the way out of town on Thursday. Since we checked in we have walked or taken the bus everywhere. I have the absolutely best parking spot that I don't want to give up. :) Those that you mentioned all go on to my short list but they are a little far to walk to. I'll check the bus schedule. I guess we could hop on BART at the Civic Center and take it to 16th and Market. But it is even 1 1/2 miles to the Civic Center station.

We walked from the hotel in Japantown to Haight-Ashbury, back to Japantown then to the Civic Center and back today.
Tomorrow is lunch at Assab (Ethiopian food). I wish there we more breakfast places. Herbivore is really good but it is a long walk.

Oooh... excellent recommendations! Where did you end up eating the rest of the time??

And agreed, we need better vegan brunch options in SF!

We didn't go to Dosa because we were not that Hung and got a late dinner of sushi in Japantown. Assab was closed the next day so we went back to Herbivore for lunch. Next day. . . Here's a secret. . . the Red Door Cafe for Breakfast! We then went GGP, the Japanese Tea Garden and the Botanical Garden and wound up at Shangri-La for lunch. We got there before they opened and had the place all to ourselves. Great food and extensive menu.

St. Francis Fountain would be a lot of fun for you two.  Soy milk shakes! And yummy vegan breakfast stuff.  Super fun place.  I LOVED Millennium.  The Loving Hut in Chinatown was good, too.  Great veggie city!
