Vegan Thanksgiving Menu

Hello,

This thanksgiving will be my family and I's first completely vegan thanksgiving, I think I'll be using a stuffed pumpkin as a main attraction. What about everyone else? What's your Thanksgiving menu look like?

Happy Cooking!
-Corrine

Turns out I'm hosting.

Going to do celebration roast, stuffing made with veggie broth, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry relish......but I need one more dish that is a bit more fancy than the traditional stuff...not sure what I'm going to do.  Last year I made a good veggie pot pie but I'm working a 12-hour shift the day before and don't have time to be too ambitious.

We have hosted a vegan Thanksgiving for the past 3 years.  My parents and several friends are the usual attendees.  None are vegan, but all enjoyed the meal.  The first 2 years I made BCG soy and seitan turkey, which was well loved by everyone, although it is a lot of work!  I also made vegan gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, and an assortment of vegetable side dishes such as succotash (lima beans and corn), green beans, roasted sweet potatoes (not candied - too sweet!), beet salad, cranberry sauce, and steamed broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower, with butternut squash rolls. I always ask guests to bring a dessert or drink because I don't cook or eat desserts.  Last year I made pretty much the same menu except I used Field Roast instead of making my own turkey due to being pressed for time.  It was really good, too, and great option for anyone who doesn't have the time, energy, or desire to make their own.  It's also good for anyone who is going to a carnivore's home for the day - it's really easy to bring with you and just pop it into the oven when you get there, to ensure you have something to eat while everyone else is digging into the rotting carcass.

This will be the first year since we moved to a new state, so we don't have any family or friends to enjoy the holiday with. I don't feel like cooking a big spread for just the 2 of us, so we are going to skip it and volunteer at a homeless shelter that day.

Okay, Thanksgiving will be at my house this year so this is what I'm doing:

Savory Spinach Dip with Wheat Thins maybe some veggies with Vegan Ranch as well
Tofurkey Vegetarian Feast: Comes with dumplings (I don't know why) and gravy and is supposed to be cooked surrounded by potatoes, carrots, and onions I believe.
Homemade Mashed Potatoes and Cashew Gravy
Big Salad served with vegan ranch
Stuffing (Store bought Pepperidge Farms)
My bro is making some kinda yam/sweet potato dish
Canned corn
Store bought frozen vegan pumpkin pie with rice whip cream

Well, this year I'm going to be having Thanksgiving with my fiancee's family which is about 4-5 hours away (if we dont make any pit stops...or depending on holiday travel.)

So...I was wondering about holiday recipes that can go unrefrigerated for a few hours, or are easy to whip up in the kitchen pretty quickly upon arrival. Or heck, even something I can partially make, and then finish when I'm there.

Most of his family knows I'm vegan, but I'm not sure if this side of the family knows I'm completely vegan, or if they think I'm just vegetarian. So I'm just trying to make sure there is something (delicious and not ucky) there for me to eat.

Any ideas would be extremely appreciated!

boxed vegan mashed potatoes, packaged vegan gravy, stuffing would probably be quick on the stove, or even L2A's potato angles taste wonderful luke warm, pasta or potato salad would travel well

This year I'll probably just pick up a thing of Tofurkey and that's it. I don't even think we're really celebrating it. Maybe I'll make a pie or something but other than that, nothing really. One year I had an interesting Thanksgiving though. My friends family invited me over and when I got there that morning her mother told me, my friend and her brother that we were making dinner. She told us that morning! 1 is a flesh eater, 1 beginning to stop eating meat and has a soy allergy, 2 vegetarians and 1 vegan. We ended up having the weirdest but coolest Thanksgiving ever. We had mashed potatoes, corn, vegetable garbanzo chili soup, Orange Chicken Style Tofu and some other things that I can't quite remember now. I just remember it being so weird but so cool.

Okay, so my nan and pop changed their plans so we're having Thanksgiving at the house. Roughly my menu will look like this:

Tofurkey
Stuffing (my mother is going to make me a separate vegan kind)
Veggies such as marinated mushrooms, asparagus, mashed potatoes (veg ones set aside for me), corn, sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli.
Maybe a veg pumpkin pie.

I'm going to my sister's for Thanksgiving. I wasn't really sure what to bring, but then I got a call from my brother begging me to bring lots of stuff (he's not vegan, but likes fake meat more than meat meat, and likes my cooking in general. He even was talking about some fried "chicken" I made a while ago... that was 8 years ago o_O). Soooooooooo

- Salisbury Seitan from the RFD Cookbook
- Golden Gravy from the RFD Cookbook
- mashed potatoes. not sure if i'm going to follow a recipe here or what
- Pumpkin Crumb Cake from Veganomicon

and if I get motivated, maybe cornbread and some green bean thing (not in the mood for casserole... maybe amandine).

My sister is making omni stuff, plus homemade cranberry sauce and roasted purple yams.

I haven't actually fixed a Thanksgiving meal in years.  It didn't see the point with it just being the 2 of us.  This year my daughter is old enough to know what is going on, so I'm going to try to make the meal special for her.  We'd probably get invited to a friend's house if we weren't vegan, but that really puts people off in this area.  Anyway, here is the menu so far.

Cinnamon rolls for breakfast/snacks all day

Some kind of salad
Homemade bread

Field Roast
Mashed potatoes
Spaghetti squash with a creamy garlicky sauce
"cheesy" broccoli rice casserole
Cranberry sauce
Corn and whatever veggies look good in the store on Wednesday
Maybe a mushroom gravy  (I don't like gravy, but my daughter might.

Dutch apple pie
Pumpkin bread
Leftover chocolate PB pie (If there is any.  We have 2 potlucks in the next couple days.  This usually is one of the first desserts to disappear.)

This sounds like way too much food just for the 2 of us, but I guess we'll be eating leftovers for a while.  I think I'm forgetting something though.

We usually do something a little different every year, but we certainly have our family traditions. Normally we make about

4 or 5 pies total (vegan and non-vegan chocolate silk pie, apple kuchen, pumpkin pie and some other fruit pie, with real and coconut whipped cream)
Stuffing (wild rice, raisins, pecans, onions and celery, all fried in butter/vegan butter)
Baked potatoes (sweet and russet)
Mashed potatoes
TONS of frozen veggies (including peas with a light sugar glaze and toasted sesame seeds)
Fresh brussel sprouts (cooked still, but not the frozen kind)
Possibly a turkey substitute (such as a Quorn roast for my vegetarian sister)
Vegan gravy
Squash
...and of course, home-made cranberry sauce. One of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving is making the cranberry sauce the night before, it looks so beautiful bubbling. Sometimes I add chunks of ginger, but this year I'm considering orange or lemon rind.

So as you can see, very traditional but hella delicious. I haven't actually tried a heck of a lot of different things since becoming vegetarian- my mom happens to be an outstanding cook, so the fact that we've veganized much of our food has not made much of a difference. In fact, as a kid, turkey was never my favorite anyway. Oh, and I always eat at home w/ my immediate family. We've never even attempted to all eat together at a grandparent's house.

whoa, so many yummy ideas. I JUST decided to host a small Thanksgiving dinner here on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, since we don't get the actual holiday here.
This is what I'm thinking, if I can manage all of it:
mushroom pate with crackers
tofu pot pie
chickpea cutlets
gravy
mashed potatoes
roasted root vegetables
rolls
pumpkin pie
vanilla coconut milk ice cream
cranberry pecan chocolate chip cookies

So my menu is finalized.

For the side dish I was going to make in addition to the traditional stuff I chose, from one of the links above, roasted butternut squash  http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/2009/10/roasted-butternut-squash-sage-citrus.html

Do they sell Tofurkey there? I saw on a blog the other day that Tofurkey has a kit out with their traditional stuff plus a vegan chocolate cake by Amy's and a bunch of coupons.

This year I am going over to a close family's friends house since I am not going home for the holidays, Luckily their son's family is vegan so I am looking forward to all the delectable vegan goodies!
I am bringing my famous chocolate chips cookies and sweet potato casserole :)

dang, you guys are awesome! I wish my immediate family were bigger so I could cook for them. I'm sure my mom will eat some things I make but my sis discriminates against vegan food.

I'm going to my sister's house tomorrow and her BF's giant family is going to be there (all omni adults, and two little kids that I think are supposed to be 10 & 14). His mom is a professional French chef so there is sure to be omni food everywhere. Soo I'm just bringing food that I would eat on a normal day because no one's going to pay attention to me and if they do I'll be considered strange anyway. haha. so:

Black bean soup -Vcon
chickpea cutlets -Vcon
roasted green beans/asparagus
pumpkin pie -VW

I might make some chocolate cupcakes for the kids because I've never met them and I'll be encouraged to mingle with them. But, I dunno.

My contribution to the family Thanksgiving feast (also--the food I was able to eat):

-Sweet Potato/Apple/Walnut Bake
-Mushroom gravy
-Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, & Thyme Stuffing
-Tofu pumpkin pie

My aunt set aside some mashed potatoes without the milk and butter for me :)

All that, some cranberry sauce, and a healthy dose of red wine...a good Thanksgiving, I think.
