I did!! A couple of the food you had listed are sold at a doggie food store just a few miles from my house! I'm going on Friday! They have Solid Gold and Evo. I still have a little Purina One left, I'm going to mix the two together to get Maggie used to the new food. She can be a bit picky sometimes! Thank you so much Davedrum!!! :)

GREAT!!!!! I had my dogs on Solid Gold for years.....It's just harder to find close to my house (Solid Gold that is). EVO is a GREAT food as well.....Trust me....Maggie is the one who will get the BIG benefit from this......it actually just made me happy to hear this! :) (is that SAD or what)!

No way it's not sad that you got so happy! ;D I absolutely LOVE dogs!!!! If I had the room (house and yard) I'd have 5 more dogs!!!

If I only had 5 dogs ......my life would be much easier! After rescuing the 3rd dog.....IT (the rescue thing) took off like a rocket! But I wouldn't give it up ;)

Good for you!! There needs to be more people like you in the world! I take Maggie for a run everyday and it makes me so sad when I see so many other doggies in my neighborhood chained up. One person on my running route has a beautiful German Shepard that she keeps in the garage in a crate....EVEN WHEN SHE IS HOME!!! This breaks my heart. Another neighbor keeps their dog chained up in their garage all the time and he goes crazy barking when we run by and slips and slides all over the garage floor. Poor thing is bored to death no doubt. When I see all these it makes me so sad but then when I hear about the wonderful things you do for dogs, it makes me feel better about the world we live in! :) Keep up the good work!

Hi DeuceO! I know what you are talking about when you mention dogs being stuck in a garage and/or tied up to a tree. It breaks my heart! Why bother even having a dog? It is cruel and inhumane punishment for ANY animal to live like that! :'(
I love the new pictures of you and Maggie! (and that's hubby I think?). She's a beautiful dog! I love the picture of the three of you.....one big happy family! :)

I know what you mean. I grew up on a big farm and we always had 5 or so dogs who never had to be tied or caged in any way. I can't stand going to friends houses who think that it is o.k. to leave their dog in a small cage the whole time thay are a work >:( In fact I have prety much stoped going over cus i just cant go over w/o saying somthing. I don't have any animals right now but hope to have a dog again soon and it will never be confined in any such maner.
I also know what you mean about strays finding you. I think that rescue dogs have ESP and send out the vibe. W e were literaly about 20 mile frome the closest gas station andour closest neighbor was about a mile up the road and dogs and cats still managed to find us all the time. We ( my mother and I) of course could never turn an animal away, much to my fathers shagrin.

uh yknow crating dogs isn't a crime..there's a reason people do it and it's usually for the safety of their dogs while they are not present to supervise them.
Better a dog be crated then get a hold of an electrical wire and end up electrocuted? What about curious puppy who decides to get into something? Sometimes objects that don't seem like they could be dangerous are..even when we think we puppy proofed our houses to the hilt..puppy may find something..and believe me..they usually do.
I learned that crating my dogs (as puppies, only one gets crated now by HIS choice when we leave) is a godsend. When they were puppies and crated, I left my house knowing they would be safe when I returned.. One of my dogs as a puppy shredded everything including a (thankfully unpllugged) lamp cord and an RG-6 cable wire connected to my cable modem...I tell ya what after that scare I went and posted on my dog board about crate training advice.
Granted, as the puppies get older they can be left out reliably..and then some can't be. My 2 males have fought in the past..if the one male wasn't crated while I was out I'd be afraid of what I could come home to.
My dogs love their crates and look at them like they are their dens. While I am home (and I do work from home, so they are only crated when I go out) they can often be found lounging in their crates..by their own choice.
Yknow what's cruel? Allowing your dogs to roam the "countryside", they fall victim to so many things..other animal attacks, attacks from people, accidents you name it.

I too have a few crates....one in my bedroom, one in my "doggie room" next my studio downstairs, and one in my family room. They all have dog beds in them and some of my dogs think they are their own little private "dens"......King...is always in a crate....he never wants to come out! I leave the doors open....the crates I have are huge "airline" type crates....not the metal ones. ...But some people leave a dog in a crate 22 hours a day....that's cruel. It's one thing to go to work and leave a dog in a crate 8-9 hours.....it's another to leave them in almost all day....even WORSE is to EVER use a crate as punishment for a dog chewing something or having an "accident" in the house. Overall, they are fine to use for training....not to "store" an animal...or to punish one as well.....once again....just my 2 cents! :D

Dave-I agree there's a limit to "crate time". While ppl are at work..again no issue. But to crate a dog 24/7 is CRUEL.
I've never used my crates as punishment either..heck I rarely need to punish my dogs (nevermind that "that look" I give them when they misbehave says it all!).
It just makes my blood boil when I hear people talk about crating dogs as "cruel".
OH and good luck w/ the dog food change Deuce..!! ;D (can u come over and take my crew for a walk? it's really cold and snowy out and I'm not looking forward to bundling up and heading out there).

Agreed, if done correctly, a dog will actually enjoy their crate. I used a crate with my dog until she was house trained and out of the chewing mode. (She was potty trained by 3 months and we stopped using the crate when she was about 8 months old) She now has a little "den" area in our bedroom that she can curl up and go to if she wants quiet time. But honestly, I think crate training is a huge favor your can do you dog. As long as it is not abused. She was never crated for longer than 5-6 hours. If you view it as a positive thing and don't use it for punishment, your dog will love it. :)

Same here! I call it "the stare" :o They know I'm the Alpha in the house. There's no chewing, no making in the house....nothing....probably easier then having kids (I wouldn't know)! They have lots of real bones (no rawhides....yuk) and balls, toys, etc. I know to most it sounds nuts and crazy to have this many dogs....it is!...but they actually entertain each other more then they bother me! ;)

Sorry, I did not mean to ofend. I was not refering to people who do it when needed for safety reasons. I refering to people who do it for 8 hours or more a day for years on end. And not only when away but some times when home just so they don't have to deal with 'it'. At these times she is also in put in the laundy room so that they don't have to hear her cry :'( This is not an isolated case either and know too many people that think that there is nothing wrong with this type of treatment. Also too many people use cages that are entirely too small for their dogs. Some i've seen cant even realy stand up or turn around. I realize that crating is nesecary at times and should have stated that earlier, again sorry but I don't think that it should be used as an alternative for good training and love and attention. Both of these I'm sure you provide for your pups. And as for our 'roaming' dogs. They never really roamed out of the yard and were always in at night. They loved their lives of chasing rabits and squirls (none were ever fast enough catch anything), playing in the creeks and taking swims in the pond with me. They all lived good, happy, long lives w/o any of the problems you mentioned. I hope you accept my apolagy I should of explained my position better.

Uh..Dave from what I've seen of my sister in laws raising children..dogs are WAY easier..until I can "train" children the way I do with my dogs, I'm going to stay childless. ;D

I don't think it sounds crazy at all. If I had the means and the space I would do so too. When I lived in the countr we always had at least five but often had several more as we tried to find suitablehomes for them. We also had various other animals. goats, horses, rabits, geese, A nest of owls that our neighbor accidentaly cut down. Whatever needed a home. Rock on with your doggy self! I hope to have a big place in the country again someday so I can have as many rescue animals as I can handle.
