Cali update

My sweet baby is slowly but surely getting a little better day by day.  The most amazing improvement came a couple of nights ago when I realized the swelling had gone down in her legs.  Her back legs were especially swollen.  Quite huge.  They are back to normal.  OK, other than the baldness and scabs.  The scabs are clearing up day by day.  Her body having the most improvement.  The slowest to heal are her legs, tail and her face.  Hair is starting to grow.  She never lost the hair around her neck.  Now she has the softest fur growing on one side of her body and it is growing from the neck down to her back end.  It is kind of cute because it all seems to be coming in stages.  Hair is growing on one side of her body so it looks like she has a funky hair cut.  So one side of her is bald and one side of her has hair growing from front to back.  The fur is like a soft down.
She still sleeps most of the time.  OK, all of the time except for peeing, eating and when I am sitting with her but it is her way to heal.  I spend hours with her a day.  Giving her her supplements, rubbing tea tree oil on her, bathing her, uncrusting her eyes, curling up next to her and massaging her body.  I wash all of her bedding daily as it has the flaking skin, the scabs that have fallen off, blood etc.  As I am renovating, she actually has the only "people" bed in my place.  She is in the pink room.  Well, she is a girl after all.  We still have a long way to go but I do see a light at the end of the tunnel.  I have been living on about 3 hours sleep a night but she is so worth it.  When all is said and done, she will have to take care of me while I sleep for a month!
Laundry is my biggest household chore now as her bedding and everything I am wearing when I curl up with her has to be laundered.
Smedley Hoover who had an amazing bond with Isabela sleeps on the bed with her much of the time.  He wants to snuggle with her but she is not up to it at this time.  Yet Smedley just doesn't give up.  He has snuck in a few nose kisses and ear licks.
Cali hasn't been outside in quite some time (weeks).  Piddle pads are great.  Not only is she not up for walks yet, it is freezing here and there is no way I could keep her warm.  A coat wouldn't cut it.
Anyway, just wanted to share.  Keep up the positive thoughts.  They ARE helping.  Love goes a long way.
I never thought that one of the most exciting things in my life would be seeing a new hair.  One on her leg, one on the top of her head, one on her tail. All of these single hairs growing in will one day be the majestic coat she once had.

Hugs Di, Cali and the assorted assortment of furred and feathered critters.

Note to Lezly:  Biko has learned such a lovely sound.  NOT. The sound of a child who has a high pitched scream.  Now when things are on TV or he is excited about something....he does that scream.  When I used to hear the child doing it, I cringed.  Now I have the joy of it constantly.  ::)

DiverDi, I am so glad you are seeing some fruit of this labour of love. Every time I look at Sweetheart's cage I think of you. ITEM: He's in there giving me hell for being in here on the computer again. More power! You've had a really hard time lately and it's good to see your efforts paying off, day by day and step by step. Tell Cali I love her for me.

Hey diverdi, I am so happy to hear all the good news. Keep up the good work. sleep and your love is defiantly what the doctor ordered. Don't worry the skin on the legs , face, and tail will heal too they are less vasculated then the body so just take a little longer. Keep up the massages this will help bring fresh healing blood to the area.
I understand what you are going through. My BF was in a near fatal accident last summer and just before it we had gutted the house to the studs. Fortunately while he was in the hospital some our friends were able to drywall one room and plumb a bathroom, and build a ramp to the front porch. Trying to care for someone in the middle of a construction zone is not easy. He has had a few more surgeries and might have to have one more but is showing real progress now. He just started walking some this week for the first time in over 6 months. :) He is still very weak and needs a lot of help with daily activities but I can see progress.
I also wanted to thank you for mentioning NCD. I researched it and just ordered some. I hope to start K. on it this week. I am off to yoga here in a bit and will share my dedication between Cali and K. Much metta to you.

How cute is that?  Cali came downstairs early tonight. She usually waits until about 1:00am.  I just said, Cali...Yabbitgirl loves you!  She didn't look up but she raised her up ear when I told her.  She has an up ear and a down ear!

I am so very happy that Sweetheart is doing so well.  Aren't budgies fun?  And vocal!!!

Thanks again!

Thanks so much Tanevab!

I thought that might be the case with Cali's face, tail and legs.  The two supplements she is on (Hemoxide and ImmunoPLUS), help with the blood as well.  Get it moving, bringing it to the surface and adding oxygen to the cells.  She is also still on NCD.  Along with the good food, omegas, vitamin C, tea tree oil rubs etc., I know the main things saving her life are the Hemoxide, ImmunoPLUS and NCD.  The tea tree oil rubs have been amazing as well.

I am very sorry to hear about your BF but it seems he is recovering and you are doing everything possible to help him through this.  Needless to say, I will be sending positive thoughts both your way!  It takes a strong person to be able to stand by someone through thick and thin.  Obviously your love and commitment are huge in helping him through a most difficult time.  I wish you both the best!

BTW, who is K?  Your BF?  You have probably mentioned it before but I seem to have brain farts lately.  Lack of sleep can do that.  ;D

A question...What does metta mean?

Thanks for the kind thoughts. K. is BF, I don't think that I explained that and metta is loving kindness. Often when you hear about organizations doing mass meditation for peace or healing this is the thought provoked. I put in a link to explain it better. It is how I strive to live my life. When I read a horrible story about some cruelty in the world instead of getting angry I try and send metta to the injured as well as the wrong doer. It is often very hard but I do believe that anger in any form only breeds more anger. I hope you have a wonderful and healing day.

Spot on, tanevab...anger just puts more negativity out there. There IS a kind of "positive" anger that impels us to do something about the situation, but I agree it can be hard to control...if there's one thing that gets me boiling it is abuse of animals or more especially, children (and particularly sexual abuse)--I sometimes am frightened by my own reaction. Personally I resort to vocal or silent prayer...it certainly is an educational experience to "pray for your enemies and bless those who despitefully use you!"

Yes yabbitgirl. I think that many people confuse metta with condoning a wrong doing or ambivilance to a situation. It is niether of these things. Thanks for your addition.

Once again, thank you so much.  I will read the link this weekend.  You have a very beautiful outlook on life.

P.S.  I fell asleep on the livingroom floor, my bed!  I woke up this morning to a very special treat.  Cali was curled up beside me with her head on my leg.

Metta T.  You deserve it!  Your loving care of your BF is proof enough!
