Split Pea Vadas

What you need:

2 cups split peas
1 1/2 medium onions
1 inch ginger
2 dry red chilies ,1 green chilies optional (deseeded to make it less spicy)
5 to 6 curry leaves
2 teaspoons asafetida
Salt to taste
oil to fry

What you do:

This is a protein rich recipe good for appetizers/snacks. Soak Split peas in water for an hr. Grind half of it and the dry chilies to a paste(not very fine) and the remaining to a very coarse consistency. Mix these two together with chopped onions, finely chopped ginger, curry leaves, asoeftida, chopped green chilies and add required amount of salt. Take a tablespoon size of it and flatten it on hand before dropping on hot oil for frying. Fry 5 to 6 at a time in a medium pan. Drain in tissue paper sheets to remove excess oil. Serve it with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup. Its Yummmmm!!!
