Get Your Groove on Veggie Burgers
1 (15 ounce) can beans or lentils, drained and rinsed
1 cup carrot, zucchini, and/or broccoli, pureed
1 cup rolled oats
garlic powder, to taste
onion powder, to taste
salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup salsa
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup cornmeal, optional
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, and lightly oil a baking sheet. Put beans or lentils in food processor until pureed, and then add to mixing bowl. Add pureed veggies.
2. Process the rolled oats in the processor to create a powdery grain. If you want your burgers to have more texture, you could skip the processing part. Add oats to mixing bowl and stir until combined evenly.
3. Add the seasonings, salsa, oil, Worcestershire, and barbecue. If it seems too wet to make patties, add cornmeal. Form into patties; I was able to form about 6 patties.
4. Salt and pepper the patty tops. Bake for 1/2 hour, flipping halfway through.
They were firm and juicy when done. I served on whole wheat bread with Dijon mustard and Vegenaise, with some baked potatoes. Get your groove on at the next burger/dog party with these healthy, tasty burgers!
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Sent my mum on a salsa run, these souuund amaaazing <3 I've been looking for some tasty veggie burgers...we dont have a wide selection where I live and I'm not super into beans or lentils and this isnt totally full of them...I'm new to veganism so thank yoooou for this lovely looking recipe!! I'll let you know when I try them! ;)b
I usually don't add the salsa to these, since I don't have it on hand often, and they still come out awesome. I just add a bit more veggie mixture. These are definitely a keeper!

I would like to add some sunflower seeds, should I soak them for a bit to soften them? Should I process them? I was also thinking of adding other nuts. What do you all think, how should I prepare them?
I think adding sunflower seeds to these burgers would be really good. Maybe process them a little bit, so they're small chunks instead of whole, which will add some texture to the burgers but not be too big? I've never soaked sunflower seeds, so I'm not sure how the consistency ends up being. I think I'll try adding them the next time I make these, too. They really are good burgers, and way adaptable. Even non-veggies like them. Good luck!
I will probably make these sometime very soon because they look so yummy and seem so easy! I was just wonderng though, I would like to add some sunflower seeds, should I soak them for a bit to soften them? Should I process them? I was also thinking of adding other nuts. Can't wait to try this recipe!! :)
My version of these ended up a little bit dry (of course....because everyone else indicated that theirs were more wet. This is just my luck in the kitchen :P). I may have added too much cornmeal. I used come cauliflower, shredded cabbage from a slaw mix and some shredded carrots. Maybe I should have thought to steam the cauliflower first because it WOULD NOT chop in the food processor raw and, I am sure, added to the dryness! Anyhow, this is a very good base recipe that can be adapted so many ways based on your preferences. They froze very well and I reheated in the microwave for 1 minute. Since I have been on a burger kick lately, here are a few good ones I have discovered:

Yummy...thanks for the recipe!
Thank you so much for this recipe, I'm very excited to try it. My birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and majority of my guest are fasting at this time of year (Easter fast)
so I'm sure they'll be thrilled as much as myself! ;)b
These are the best home-made veggie burgers ever, and sooo easy to make! Good with a little liquid smoke added in, too! ;)
I loved this recipe! I doubled it and froze extras for dinners for the week. They were such a good texture and didn't fall apart at all. I added a little some cayenne pepper for some spice and I'm in love. This is already a staple recipe in our busy household.
I used lentils once and black beans another time and both worked well. We soaked and boiled dry beans (cheap and easier than you think!) and it's 1 and 1/2 cups per can called for.
I ended up adding quite a bit of cornmeal...maybe twice as much, but it's easy to adjust.
Yum! Thank you for sharing a healthy and easy recipe.
We just finished off the last of these today for lunch. They're pretty tasty and really easy to throw together. I used lentils for the beans and carrots and zucchini for the veggies. Initially after making these, I thought the texture was too soft and mushy, which is often typical of homemade veggie burgers. However, upon reheating these over the last week in the toaster oven, I've found the texture to be great, nicely firm and crisp on the outside. My nonveg boyfriend likes these, too, and he's picky. I love finding recipes like this that we can both enjoy.
I made these again for a family get-together. I doubled the recipe, using one can of chili beans and one can of great northern beans, and they were the best ever! Everyone loved them, even the meateaters. These are the best homemade veggie burgers I've ever had. Thanks again for a great recipe! :)>>>
