Sorry, forgot to add that I only fried this in about a 1/3 inch of oil in a skillet.  I don't have a deep fryer.  If it puffs up a lot, you can just poke it with a fork to let out the air.  Fry 'till golden on both sides and enjoy!

Yummy!  I just made this and its great.  I put cinnamon and sugar in the batter, then topped it with soy butter and maple syrup after frying.  I put only half of the baking powder in.  It reminds me of donuts or french toast sticks.  So good!  I'm going to try making it savory next time.  Maybe add some crumbles and soy chz to the batter and some spices.  I think the combinations are endless.  Thanks for the recipe!!!    ;)b

i'm having trouble getting the oil to the right temp for frying since i can't find my candy thermometer, but even messed up these are tasty.  my bf requests navaho tacos (like we used to get in utah/idaho school lunch!) almost weekly since we discovered this recipe.  definitely better the day of, leftovers lose their softness pretty quickly.

Ah, serving fry bread on Thanksgiving.  The cultural irony of that is great.
I don't do too much frying at home, and usually just eat this at pow wows.  I ought to get brave and splatter some grease around, make me a "taco." Fry bread is the stuff of life!  :)>>>

.... If I didn't run out of oil I would have made these THREE times today...

I never knew such delicious simplicity existed... Oh man..
Sooo the first time I ate it with honey and cinnamon.. The second time I sliced a banana, put in some syrup, ground flax and cinnamon and mashed lightly to make a chunky banana sauce...
SOOOOOOO GOOOOD.. I kind of love this stuff. I'm even going to make some to serve to my family for thanksgiving.

Frybread is the staple food in Native American culture and we eat it with EVERYTHING, lol. The frybread I make has a similar recipe to this, although I don't use measurements and stuff for frybread, I just make it, lol. Add a little more sugar for a little sweeter frybread (perfect if you wanna put powdered sugar on it), and turn it in the skillet while it's cooking.

Let the dough sit for 10-20 minutes while you clean up from mixing, etc. Get a glass of water, sit down, get comfy, lol. It's definitely worth it because the dough will get fluffier, and frybread is supposed to be fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside.

Also, don't just stretch the dough! You won't get the air pockets that help make it fluffier. Form it into a ball in your hand, pat the ball a couple times, then toss it quickly from hand to hand until it's thin and flat. This is a lot easier after you let the dough sit, because it won't stick to your hands and it'll get perfect.  :)  If you get a perfect circle when you do this, poke a hole in the middle of it before you fry it. Not only will it help the cooking, but some tribes always put a hole in the center to symbolize the imperfections that everyone has, because no one is perfect except the Creator.

Happy frybread-ing! haha.  ;)b

A bunch of reviewers say they've had this with sugar on top and that reminds me- I've been craving funnel cake soo badly! :D  Could this be used to make funnel cake, like would I have to add more liquid or something? Thanks!
