Chocolate Chip Cookies-Like They Should Be

What you need:

3/4 cup raw sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup vegan margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4-1/3 cup applesauce (enough to equal 1 egg)
2 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 (12 ounce) bag vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips

What you do:

1. Heat oven to 370 degrees Fahrenheit. Beat sugars, margarine, vanilla, and applesauce together in a large bowl.
3. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt. (Dough will be somewhat stiff). Stir in chocolate chips.
3. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until light brown. Cool.
This is a recipe that my mom has been making my entire life, and I was so so so excited that they turned out so well after substituting a few things.
Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

This was fantastic- thanks so much! I've made the Happy Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies but I don't think oil works as well as Earth Balance margarine. I used Ener-G Egg Replacer instead of applesauce and 3/4 cup of margarine, and also cooked it only 10 minutes and they were perfect- chewy and delicious.

Thanks so much! I will definitely be making much more of these  :)

I just finished three of these and a glass of soy... I'm impressed.  :D
I used the applesauce modification and the peanut butter addition.
This recipe with the mod's is going into my recipe box. They're so much better than the old recipe I used.

these were very very good. crispier than i would've liked, but maybe next time i'll use more applesauce or something. i did take the other reviewers' suggestions of using 3/4c margarine and 2/3 c appleasauce. the thinner ones were a little softer than the thicker ones. a couple months ago i made the happy vegan choc. chip cookies and i don't know if i did something wrong there but they came out awful, so these were perfect in comparison.

Wow... these cookies are AWESOME!! I used whole wheat flour and oatmeal, added a bit of cinnamon & used melted Earth Balance spread & the cookies turned out great. These are my new favorite cookies!!!!  :)

On behalf of my meat eating BF who's been asking "when can we eat 'real' cookies again?" I want to share a teary-eyed thank you.  I wish I had my camera on hand when he first bit into one of these, he looked just like a little boy who'd found his long lost best friend.

Thank you SO much for this recipe!!!
ps- I must admit that we ended up about three cookies short due to the fact that I couldn't stop eating the batter!!!  ::)

These were easy to make.  I found they had too much of a "butter" taste using Earth Balance.  Next time I will use 1/2 the margarine and 1/2 Tahini.

Thanks for the recipe.

These were great.  I used toasted walnuts as well.  I tried carob chips but they melted out of the cookies and burned at this temperature.  Chocolate is definitely the way to go.

these are great!

turned out a bit on the crispified side tho...

think ill add 1/2 c soymilk next time...

also i found that a whole bag o choco chips may have been too many... there were a bunch left in the bowl that woudnt even fit in the cokies they were so packed with chips!

choco-loving-husband ate four gigantic ones and currently has chocolate all over his face... im not going to tell him though...

fourteen thumbs up!
