Garbo Burgers

What you need: 

1 15 1/2 oz can garbanzo beans , drained
1 1/3 cup rolled oats
1 cup water
1 small onion or 1 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil

What you do: 

Run beans through a food processor till texture is like ground meat. Add remaining ingredients except oil. Let sit 10 to 15 minutes or till water is absorbed. Heat oil in skillet. Spoon patties into skilled and press into burger shapes. Cook on both sides till brown.
Notes: Can be used as meat alternative in other dishes, small patties can be used as finger food and/or dipped in sauces. Other seasonings may be added. Example: Italian seasonings or Mexican seasonings. Different sauces may be substituted for the soy sauce. I like a mock oyster sauce made from mushrooms that my local health food store has.

Like my mother taught me, I made these according to the recipe the first time.  I liked them, my 9 mo. old grandson devoured his, family all wanted something else.  Normal for them.  I am thinking using my Indian "all spices" blend in a future batch, as well as trying some other variations.  I am hoping this freezes well once cooked so I can have them when the family votes against me on meals.


These were great! I added some cumin and chili powder and ate the burgers with tomatoes and sprouts. Yum!


I used this as a base for an experimental tomato basil mushroom burger. I just made them so I don't know how they taste yet.


They came out great, I made up some honey mustard dressing and put it on my sandwich. Next I juice I will add my carrot pulp to it. To give it alittle more flavor.


I added chopped parsely and mustard. Yummy! loved it! thanks! :-D


these were so good, I added a ton of spices to the recipe as I like things pretty spicy and I definately think I would use less water next time, I had to add a bit of flour to get the mixture to hold together and not to stick to my hands, they definately didn't fall apart once in the pot, I fried everything up and put the extras in the freezer to heat up on the bbq one of these days. They are just delicious, I love the versatile in making meat alternative burgers, there is so much choice and so much different flavors one can get, burgers will never be boring again!!!


These were good. The recipe makes a lot though. I froze some of the patties.
