I think it would be a good idea to give a few of us the responsibility to help keep the site in order.  You know, in case some jerk with a two year old chip on his shoulder decides to come back and make problems, we can modify his childish posts and stuff like that.  Banning could be left up to the administrator if you like, but I'm sure we would be more than willing to help with this too if the situation warrants it.

Thanks, Rabidchild...excellent idea...the threads definitely get overwhelming for me too and it would be nice to access the info easily.

Thanks, Charbot. This is something we're considering...

I'm not gonna sift back through this to find something to quote -- but wrt the "roll call" thread -- it's too damn long. If you want people to introduce themselves maybe have a subforum for that so if someone starts posting and you're like "who the heck is this guy" you can glance in that forum and see if they've said anything. Also gives people more of an opportunity to personally welcome new folks, imo. When threads get too long they just get chaotic and intimidating.

Interesting idea. I'm a member of another forum where a "welcome caroleena2" thread would be automatically posted under the new person forum when I joined. I'm not particularly saying that admins need to be the ones to create the threads (esp. since so many VWers just create logons to review recipes), but that organization is really nice. Sure the threads are often pretty short, but that is okay.

CK beat me to the suggestion about blocking IP addresses.

(300 posts-- weehee!)

While I do like the new quick reply, I'm not a fan of the new quoting method.  The quoted posts keep getting fubared.

Yeah, it puts the cursor in the middle of the quotes, so many are seeing their comments end up a part of someone else's.

Even if someone doesn't have a profile, I'd still like to find them with the profile search.  If the screen came up with just their name it'd be fine because we'd still have a link to any posts they might have made.  The way it works now is if a user doesn't have a profile, (s)he doesn't show up in a profile search.

I have noticed two thing's that I think would be beneficial:

1) I don't see an edit button...it would be nice to be able to edit your own post after you have posted it.

2) It would be nice to have a next new post button so you don't have to scroll down the page

I understand that I am new and if these are abilities we already have ..well. then I'm an idiot.

we have both! one is the little paper and pencil by your posts (click on it to edit)
two is the <<previous    next>> button on the top right

thanks Hespedal! That is a great help.

I read through the entire thread to see if anyone else had made this suggestion! I just was looking through recipes, and kept finding ones that were really badly written--bad grammar, spelling, punctuation. It kind of puts me off of trying them, and I think it does others too, since there are typically not many reviews. Hence--why are the recipes approved?

I know this makes me sound like a snob, and I also know my own spelling leaves something to be desired at times (see my comma splice?), but...it would be nice.

In addition to being able to search for someone who doesn't have a profile and see their posts, I'd also like to see when they registered.

i would also like to see recipe names changed so that they reflect what it is. i'm tired of all these "clever" names that don't say squat about what it is. even if we did a kind of thing that would be cool.

example: Awesome carrot cake ----> cool
secret suprize awesome n00b treat ---> what? edit:

Yes. For a while, there was a box in the Submit Recipe form where you could put a description... which I think encouraged/allowed people to use the title as a title, not a fruity useless name, like you say. Then the description function disappeared. ???

Since the new management took over, the spam user thing seems to have calmed down, but anyway...maybe we need some kind of filters to stop it. We were getting "users" touting omni diets, cheap and fast loans, and porn sites there for a bit. It just gets dull.

It's already there.  That's how I got your social security number.

Ohhh, I must have it blocked. I'll have to look in my account settings. I was wondering about that!

could we get a function to search within a thread (although that might defeat the point of the 'review' threads)

also can you make my text permanently purple, pretty please?

Muahahaha.... You are awesome Shelloid!!

how to videos! we have a few but it would be cool to pimp out the "articles" section and have videos for common vegan issues/topics. so when someone is like "egg replacer?" we can be like "oh hai there is a video!"

Haha, so cute.  oh hai, videos!  That's a great idea.  It would be really awesome to do a collaborative video on some such topic at the next potluck.  :)
