MorningStar Hickory BBQ Riblets

Well I was walking through the store today grocery shopping for myself and when Im out I always pick up a package of the MorningStar Chicken Nuggets for my sister (she is vegetarian.) While I was looking for the nuggets a different MorningStar product caught my eye, it was the veggie ribs! I figured since it was MorningStar it would have eggs and milk in it but it didn't! So anyways I was really curious and couldn't help my self so I bought a box of them.

The box came with two riblets, each riblet being about 5 inches long 3 inches wide and about an inch thick. I microwaved them and slid them on to a plate and took a bite. I was really hesitant about these considering MorningStar and Boca can make some naaasty processed stuff that probably isn't good for you. but these were really really good. The texture is like a mix of tempeh and seitan, its perfect. They are also really filling (coming from an 18 year old boy.) I had one and I was all set for the night. The only complainant I have about these things is that they taste kinda salty. When I checked the box I found that one rib contains 810mg of sodium! thats about 34% of your DV.

Other info:
1 Riblet = 220 calories, 3.5g of fat, 18g of protein, 35g of carbs, and 24g of sugar (bbq sauce.) Also has 10% of your DV for calcium and 15% for your iron.

So there is a review on them. I suggest them to everyone!!!

Yeah...I just stopped eating Boca/MS because of that sodium! That much  sodium actually makes me sick now.

I think you are better off finding a recipe for "riblets" than eating those salt licks.

They're awesome in a sandwich! I think there's a thread devoted just to our love of riblets somewhere. :)>>>

These are a guilty pleasure of mine on rare occasion, man they are good. But yea, the sodium kills.
I remember when I first made them and tried them out, my first thought was to double check the package because honestly they feel and taste sooooo close to meat it was a bit odd at first, had the same issue with vegan jerky, was taken back for a moment the first go around :P

I was delighted to find these!  They are so delicious!  And they're perfect for me to have when my husband is having barbequed meat - my dinner always smells so much better.  I wish Morningstar would sell the bbq sauce they put on those riblets, too.  They are a wonderful treat!

I loved them as a special treat.  But I haven't seen them in stores lately, I thought they had stopped selling them.  And yes, I think we have devoted some time here talking about them.

Ahh sorry about the double post. but yeah once in awhile i think they would be good but i could not eat them often (too salty and expensive.) Also once i get off here im trying dragonflys vegan rib recipe out, im sure they will be much better!

nooo, I didn't mean that, you can talk about it as much as you want!  They deserve to be talked about!

Yes, i remember the thread devoted to them. To my recollection i went crazy on it for a while. Haha. (but i didnt even feel like looking for it, so yay new thread)
(And i always have my riblet stash in my freezer)

I have a ginormous obsession with these. It used to be very bad... I've learned to control myself, mostly.

I was nuts about these til I started making Dragonfly's ribs.  Now I'm more obsessed with those.  I like the texture better.  There's almost nothing to the  Morningstar ones.  But i do love that sauce!

I love the Morningstar ribs. I was in the dining hall today, and they were cooking meaty ribs, and I smelled them. For a second I thought they were making riblets!!

Yah, so yummy! :)>>> I could eat them every day, but I never payed attention to the sodium thing, I don't think I have ever looked at sodium content in any of my food...is that really so bad? I just figured I was ok cuz I never salt my food.... :-\

So Morningstar isn't Vegan, just vegetarian?  I didn't know that...

Most of their stuff is just vegetarian. But the riblets, meat crumbles, and i think another  few things are vegan. Just make sure your read the labels!

ya i love the labels... they r quick to decode... they have at the end of their ingredient list if they contain milk products and i believe all their boxes will say vegan if the products is to make things easier... they don't offer many vegan products though :( mostly vegetarian
