A friend of mine got bitten this way via a singles chatroom. Some dude started a chat "relationship" which led to phonecalls (her calling him, of course) and then he asked her for money to "come visit." From Latin America...Peru, I think. Of course he never bought a ticket or got on a flight. He claimed that they had stopped him in Customs in Madrid. She checked...he'd never been near an airport.
This woman has a responsible job, she has "connections" in Madrid enough to find this out...and yet she was dumb enough to believe his tale of woe. The mind boggles.
Some lady did that to my dad once when he was "shoppin teh market" for a lady to leave my mom for. He wasn't dumb enough to pay. Somehow though...he's dumb enough to stay with my mother...hmmm...?
