Reasons to smile

I guess not everyone needs to find a reason, but... What made you smile and/or laugh today?

My first LOL of the day was caused by this LOLdog.

I went to the uniform laundry room at work yesterday, to ask if I could try on a size smaller in my trousers. And they fit! The laundry lady asked me if I needed a new shirt, too, so I tried the next size down in that, too. And it fit! Wow. My pants had been slipping down my hips a little for weeks, but last week they got ridiculously slippy. So happy to have confirmation that my body's changing shape/size a little. :iloveyou:

Humming along to the occasional good song at work... it's amazing how much it can lift my mood. ;)b

Overhearing customers' reactions when they can't decide whether flowers are real or not. It's hilarious either way - when they think fake are real, or real are fake. ;D

Vegwebbers. Y'all are the coolest. :)>>>
And finding a copy of Jonathan Livingston Seagull on DVD, on sale.

i had a dream last night that i decided to have pet hermit crabs again.  i didn't have a tank for them so i just put up some chicken wire in a circle in the middle of my floor and poured sand on the floor.  i put them in there but they kept escaping.  as i was looking for them to put them back (which i did non stop throughout the dream) i kept finding different animals including: another bearded dragon, another bunny, three rats, several mice, snakes, strange bugs, different crabs, sea slugs (?? they were on land!), baby dragons (my boy dragon had babies in his tank??? dunno how i was going to explain that to myself), and many others.  i was the happiest mommy in the world with my 80 animal babies!!!  i had tanks set up everywhere!  by the end of the dream i decided to put the crabbies in a tank so they would stop escaping.  when i woke up, i smiled so much.  i need dreams like that more often!

my reason to smile: I had an awesome, amazing weekend at pride. Not due to the festivities, necessarily, although they were fun - but mostly due to catching up with some long-lost(?) friends who make me really happy. Some friendships feel like home, and this is one :)

another reason to smile is there will be more to come.

third reason to smile? There is potential this weekend. that's all I will say

good luck on that "potential"!  ;)  i'm pretty sure i know what you mean.

and sarah, yeah, i know!  me too!  i woke up and was a little surprised to find i only had eight instead of eighty.

another reason to smile:

my garfield-wannabe kittie, ivan, is sleeping on his back in superman pose with his arms and legs out just  like the big man himself!

and when he yawns, he always lets out a little squeak just like his mama b.

Your avatar makes me smile every time I see it.  Have you ever seen the commercial about the house hippo.  It is an ad that shows this tiny hippo that they say is a house hippo.  Says they like chips or something, then shows it in the dogs water bowl having a swim.  Says they like to sleep in closets with lots of lints etc to stay warm.  The commercial then shows it full size with it's mama.  The point of the commercial is to watch TV with your kids so that they realize everything they see is not necessarily true.  If it was, I would surely want a house hippo!

I smile every morning this summer because the weather has been PERFECT! :D

Di, I've seen the "house hippo" commercial and I want one, too!

My reasons to smile:
I have a new, cordless mouse and keyboard that are actually compatible with my PC and have a lovely "hand" to them.
My VW BD thread. Still smilin' big over that, it'll probably last me all week.  :)>>>
I don't have to go out this PM, Vespers is coming to me. Whee!

my desire to have a pet hippo started when i saw a documentary on animal planet about a pet hippo named sally.  she was such a sweetieheart and loved to eat sweet potatoes!  she was hand raised from a baby (because she was orphaned, i think).  when they tried to socialize her with another hippo her age and size, she was actually frightened because she didn't know what it was.  she was pretty sure she was not a hippo.  i think she was also "housebroken" in the sense that she only used the bathroom in a certain area.  she loved people and was a great pet.

as soon as i saw that, my face lit up and i turned to brittney with the biggest smile and said, "I WANT ONE!  pleeeeeeeeeease?!!"

...she said no. :(  she said she got me lots of animals and we barely fit in our apartment as it is!  BUT she said if i had a zoo then i could have one.  haha.

after that conversation, she no longer said no to the idea of having a pet pig.  so at least there's that.  now i just need a yard & a house since she said that was the requirement.

(i guess after a pet hippo, a pig doesn't sound half bad?!!)

Heh, RD, you remind me of me so much. I always beg my mom to let me get animals. Or bring animals home, or take care of random ones in the yard.

My reason:
I am somehow in a really good mood today, even though its a lame day of sitting here and the mother yelling. I think its because i'm listening to old cds that make me happy.

sarah, you make me :)!

my mom is almost as bad as i am.  have i told you i grew up on a farm?  i've had MANY pets!  and no, it wasn't a farm full of animals used for food... it was a farm full of animals we had just because we liked them (and because they make really good lawn mowers!).

my mom never told me no when i brought a random stray home.  in fact, sometimes i would come home from school and we'd suddenly have a new dog in our backyard because she saw it wandering around on the highway and picked it up and brought it home.  she would post that she found a pet and if someone claimed it they would get it back.  usually they didn't so we kept them.

she still does this.  my mother has SO MANY cats!  in fact, my brother is in job corps now and he rescued a tiny kitten that the other kids were abusing (oh, he made me so proud!).  it was the day that he was going home for the weekend and he packed the kitten up in his bag and carefully kept it in his lap so she wouldn't get hurt.  his friend said, "won't your mom get mad if you don't ask her first?" and my brother said, "nah, my mom will love her!"  so our mom went to pick them up and drove two hours to get home.  when they got home he opened the bag and out popped mary!  my brother said, "i brought her home for you.  she was getting beat up by some of the kids at job corps" and my mom was ABSOLUTELY THRILLED!  and, of course, proud of my brother for stepping in to take care of the tiny baby.

my dad, on the other hand, would have said to give the kitten back to those people since he didn't want it.

(from what kevin told me, the kids were kicking her around, throwing her, slamming her into walls, and throwing things at her)

also, sarah,
don't question random happy days that seem to be without reason.  just let them happen and enjoy them!

I just went to use my Visa to find out it was not in my wallet.  Last time I used it was on the 17th of June so have no idea when it went missing.  Got home and called the bank.  There has been no fraudulent use on my card so it is now cancelled and a new card/number will be sent to me.  Whew!

A pig is good too!  I believe the house hippo commercial is on a Canadian station.  Can you imagine a little hippo that can wade in a dogs water bowl?  Every time I see the commercial, I wish I was taping the show so I could keep it.

RD, does your mom want to adopt a kid who's probably about her own age? Cause I  could do with a mom and I'd love to share yours.

yabbit,

you know what, she just might!

let's see... she was born in 1968.  i don't know when you were born but you said something earlier that makes me think you two probably are around the same age.  (i think it was that you've been with your hubby for 26 years?)

my mom had me super young!

and i definitely love that quality of her.  you know?  her ever expanding heart for the animal world.  she's not as far as i am... she eats meat and such.  but she loves her animal babies so much!  she calls me and tells me that i have a baby sister or a baby brother anytime she gets new ones.  haha.  :)
