A little something about V8 juice
On here, as well as a few other places, I've seen the question come up about if V8 is vegan or not. I don't know if it's been answered yet or not (I couldn't find an answer anywhere, but I might have just missed it), so I did some digging. The ingredients label is pretty straight-forward about what's in it, but then you get towards the end and you see something that's just called "flavoring". I emailed Campbell's to ask them what is used to make this flavoring. Here is their reply:

The term "flavoring" refers to the oils or extracts that are obtained from spices and herbs. Natural flavoring may also include onion or garlic derivatives, as well as flavor derived from fruits, vegetables and their juices, or edible parts of plants. Other sources may include meat, seafood, poultry or dairy products, whose significant function in the food is flavoring rather than nutrition.

Not the most direct answer in the world. But to be safe, I'm passing on the V8 from now on. Which is a shame.
y'all should note that buttloads of products contain "natural and artificial flavorings", i remember having read somewhere (maybe even a vegnews?) that while this label is there to help protect company secrets, it can cover pretty much anything, most shockingly things like musk oil extracted from glands just inside a beaver's anus. this musk is a 'natural flavoring' commonly found in raspberry flavored treats.

i remember after i read the article checking all the torani syrup bottls at work. each list had the same thing, something like "water, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, natural and artificial flavorings". since then we've switched to sonoma syrups, which are more like "water, organic raw sugar, organic meyer lemon extract"

their syrups don't contain egg derivatives, some (minority) contain milk, no fish/shellfish, but since meat in general is not a "big 8" allergen I guess that one's a mystery. But I'd guess fruity syrups generally don't have it... unless it's raspberry :-\
I was fairly disgusted by the thought of meat broth being in V8. I was also getting frustrated with the difficulty of finding an official answer about whether or not V8 is vegetarian. "It's such a simple question..." I thought. Well, after stumbling around the Web, I've found something. Here's something from Campbell's about V8:

It appears to claim that V8 is in fact vegetarian. It appears to be official, since it's on a food service Website where customers are likely to be concerned about providing vegetarian foods for those who ask for them.
Hi folks! The other day I was drinking a glass of V8 Splash & it hit me (or a Divine message from above hit me) that there was something not Kosher with this drink. I could not even finish my drink. I looked up and down for a kosher sign, but my eyes aren't the hottest anymore & thinking maybe I missed it. So I got to snooping on here & I can see I was correct in assuming something was not good for my Jewish soul to drink. Thanks for doing such good investigative work ;)b!!!
Dear Campbell
I see all of these comments above about your ingredients in "natural flavorings". I do not see MSG anywhere in your ingredients. Is that because you HIDE it in the "natural flavorings"? Please let me know if MSG is in your V8 juice. I drink it, but my son is allergic to MSG, so please let me know before I allow him to try it. Thank you.
