Hey! thanks for the thread! Makes me feel very special  :)>>>

Well, the marathon did not go very well. But I still had a lot of fun & am trying to think of when would be the best time to do another one.

My first mistake was forgetting my watch. The first 10 miles of the course were just so scenic & fun that I think I got carried away & went too fast. Then there was this difficult portion along a hilly trail that start to make my legs ache. By mile 15 I kindof fell apart completely. My legs hurt so much I stopped to strech them a few times & was reduced to a walk. Plus it was really hot out & I started drinking more water to cool off. I finifhed the race by alternating walking & jogging. It took me at least 45 minutes longer than I had hoped. But the course was really nice & the people there were so friendly & nice. I had a really good weekend over all.

I think my next big venture will be a summer triathlon & I'll try to get in some speedwork & try to build more of a base, then maybe do another marathon next year.

Sounds like it went well to me!  The fact that you ran it and finished is HUGE accomplishment in itself (maybe not for you, but for 99% of the population it is!).  Big CONGRATS there!  I used to run cross country and can't imagine doing 26.2.

LAD I am really proud of you!!! Thanks for sharing your expereinces and way to go on training for a marathon and sticking it out when the going got tough. Woo-hoo!

I am thinking of training for a half in April (I've done some before), but I'm really scared to commit to it over the winter. I despise running indoors and the weather is starting to get crappy here. Boo!

Keep me posted on the triathlon! I would love to try one of those someday too.

You are my vegan-runner hero.

awww thanks everyone!  :)>>>

I really want to do another one ASAP! I feel like I need to redeem myself. It's a good thing the philly marathon is already sold out or else I probably would sign up for it!

I'm an addict!

MAYBE I'll do a spring one. We'll see

Congratulations! I don't think I could ever do that! I am definitely not a runner. :)

Kudos to you!

That's what happened to me - I signed up for another one almost immediately - although it was almost 6 months away - my 2nd one was the Shamrock Marathon in VA Beach and that was my favorite of them all - especially the hashers at mile 23 with their keg, LOL!

The Shamrock Marathon is the one I was thinking of!!!! That's so funny!

I really want to get faster though & I think I should concentrate on that first.

melthibs, cappy,  greenT, everyone, if you have the will to do a marathon & dedication to train for one, I'm sure you could. Really, anyone can, all they have to do is put in the training.

If it ever fits in your schedule I'd definitely recommend the Shamrock - it's smaller and really friendly and the course is a good one and the weather is good there in March.  I also did the RnR 1/2 over Labor day the same year I did the Shamrock but that was more people and more crowds.  My 3 were the Marine Corps, the Shamrock and the Inagural Baltimore Marathon.  If I get tempted again I would like to do the Austin Marathon - it's point to point with a net downhill :)
