Lapsed...

I have been vegan since April. I have been ill with flu for last 2 weeks and have for some reason felt compelled to eat non vegan food. I have eaten tinned tuna, free range eggs and squid, none of which I particularly enjoyed.
I feel like i have now "spoilt it"
Please can I have your thoughts.

People do strange things when they're ill. Don't worry about it; just get back on track. You'll find any number of threads talking about slip-ups. If you've been vegan since April, think of all the good you've done so far. "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again."  ;)

Think of it this way: you were ill. Maybe your body craved some of the nutrients in the eggs/tuna etc. I go absolutely MAD for miso when I'm unwell (I even spread it on toast) and the rest of the time it leaves me cold.
Also:
You are not to be judged as a person on the basis of what you do or don't put in your mouth, particularly by yourself. We all have courts of inquiry in our own heads, and they tend to be "kangaroo courts" indeed.
You choose to be vegan and that's wonderful, but there are no "diet police", you will not be fined or taken to court for a mistake.
And as I often say, one brick doesn't make a wall. One day, or even one week, doesn't have to set the pattern for the rest of your life.
It's all about making choices, whatever those choices may be. We're all at different points on our paths...and only God is "perfect."
If you meet Mr or Ms "Perfect Vegan"--their diet may be "perfect" but  if you look close you'll find imperfections in other aspects of their lives.

I think you psyched yourself out thinking you were "deprived".

Or you were craving salty foods.

Thank you all. Your answers have made me review my actions. As i said the foods were nowhere near as satisfying as i would have thought theyd be.  I think perhaps Startaurus hit the nail on the head regrding feeling deprived-like i had to go back and check and then discovered it was never that good anyway.
THanks to Yabbitgirl and the others-your wise words have made me look at the wider situation.I shall start again.

Gramma always said, slips don't count.  I have lived long enough to tell you, THEY DON'T.

It is not the past you need to be concerned about, but rather the future.  The past you cannot change, the future is distinctly maleable and waiting for you and your adventures, hopefully a little wiser for having made a mistake or two (well make them, but we don't all learn from them).

Forgive yourself, and go on!  We aren't going to judge you here.  Hope you are feeling better.

I am a new vegan too  :) (as of May 1st)  if you think that it could have been paranoia (I begin to doubt myself if one of the kids even thinks about becoming sick!) check out fitday.  I didnt think too much about it when I first signed up to vegweb, I though it was only about losing weight etc (not that I dont need to) but I absolutely love that I can keep an itemized list of all of the items that I am feeding my family and see at the same time if their individual nutritional needs are being met.  My dietary peace of mind is back.  ;)  I now know that I am doing all that I can and then some.
