Games

Since I started working at a summer camp, I've been playing a lot of games like kickball, soccer, basketball, hide and go seek, water polo, etc. But my absolute favorite game that we've played is "capture the flag". We played against the older group today and we missed all of our other activities because we were so into it. We played for 2 hours! my legs still hurt. so now it's my new favorite game.

What are your favorite games?

I can barely remember it but when I was little we used to play this game about crossing a river or something, lol. It was kind of like tag. There would be a few people in the middle of the court and we would all be on one side and yell, "Someone, someone (forgot the name) may we cross your river?" or something like that and then we would all run to the other side and the people in the middle would try to tag as many people as possible and those people would become taggers.

Another one was where we would have three pins on each side and it was a little like dodgeball but you were also trying to knock the three pins of the other teams down.

When I used to go to summer camp I really liked the scavenger hunts! We would have a huge one in the woods at the end of camp season and it was so much fun! We also would have a kind of games day where we would have competitions and stuff. We would do things like short races, swimming, 3 legged races, etc... I really miss camp! Wish I worked at one!!!!

Minke, that sounds like a new version of "Red Rover". "Red Rover, Red Rover, send (whoever) right over." And then the line would lock hands to try to stop them crossing the line.

I haven't played games in forever but I used to love freeze tag and Statues...basically the same game but fun.

What you called "Capture the Flag" we used to call "French and English" because, I suppose, of the flags used.

I was so amazed the other day to discover that a lot of games like dodgeball etc. have been taken out of schools for "health and safety" reasons.  ::) And then they complain kids don't like to exercise! People--make it fun!

Oh man. Red rover is dangerousss. Haha. We played that in my summer adventure camp thing for ag. It was reallyy intense. We had to stop because too many people were hurt. Haha. (they kept sending me over because I was tiny! ahh! butts.)

In elementary school we played "doughnut factory" Which I don't think would make sense to other people? I don't know if its an actual game. But you wore flags like in flag football and you had sides, and had to run to the other side without getting captured and grab a "doughnut" (round rubber thingy) from the factory or you'd wind up in jail. Haha. It was weird but way fun.

The Sardines game I know is a form of hide and seek, but it involves one person hiding and the others seeking. Everyone who finds the hider having to get into the same place (a closet, under the bed, whatever) until you're packed in like sardines.

without a doubt, the *only* game to play in summer is some variation of beach cricket/bat down/backyard cricket, but I'm probably the only person here who believes that! : )

Sounds kind of like British Bulldog, yes?

oww I'm with you on the backyard cricket! Or as I did the other weekend, backyard rugby with a slightly rotten pumpkin instead of a ball...

hehe, yesss.
One of the most awesome memories I have from our big trip, was walking through the streets of Edinburgh early on Christmas morning and finding a bunch of ex-pats playing rugby in the middle of the road but they were such a mixed group and everyone was shouting and laughing and it felt, to me, like such a mixture of childhood and home that I didn't know whether to laugh or cry! haha.
