Circumcision???

So its not the Ball thread....but i have a serious question. I am so torn about whether or not to circumcise this little guy. I was convinced for a while that I was not going to, but today after talking to a different pediatrician, I felt like it would be ok if I did.

I know there is no medical reason to do it....I've researched it a bunch but I'm just not sure what's best for the boy~now and for his whole life. I don't want him to feel funny if he still has his foreskin, but on the other hand, it seems like such a pointless surgery (purely cosmetic) and that it would hurt!

It seems that there is a recent trend of NOT doing it, and in most parts of the world it is not customary....

I'd love to hear from both boys and girls on this topic, and share any experiences you have had with circed and non-circed penises. Do you prefer one type over the other?

I have (heard) sex is better with penises that are still intact (non-circed) for both the boy and the girl.....and in many ways I feel like its there for a reason (even heard that the foreskin secretes a lubricant)

What would you do???!!!
If you had a penis, would you want it circed or not???

(another reason I was hoping for a girl.....)

DS 17 was not circumcised and has never had a UTI.

His cousin, born 3 weeks earlier, was circumcised and had to go back for surgery to touch up "problems" from the circumcision.

I hate the idea of elective surgery on a newborn, personally, and the reasons for putting him through this did not seem compelling to me.

That said, the director of a nursing home told me in recent years that uncircumcised male patients have major cleanliness issues, infections, etc.  because of the foreskin. (Though you have to wonder why they aren't being kept clean by staff...)

DS developed a very slight adheason, which I feared would have to be addressed surgically, but it doesn't bother him, and the dr. says to leave it be if it doesn't cause pain.

We've puzzled over what to tell him about how to use a condom, though.  (DH is circumcised).  Does the condom go over the whole foreskin?

Female genitalia are harder to clean than male genitalia, but we don't cut parts off baby girls so that it's easier for them to be cared for in a nursing home.

Anyway, I'd rather clean the genitals of ten old men every day of my life, than be circumcised myself.

Condoms aren't a problem.  The foreskin usually retracts when there's an erection anyway, so that it's often almost impossible to tell the difference between circumcised and intact.

Picking up this thread from LONG ago...

I did NOT get my son circumcised and I am very glad that I made that decision.  I think that it is actually easier to keep clean because I have seen babies who have been and they seem to have more folds on the penis for poop to get under.  My son's is this solid little chunk no folds.  (I had no idea while I was pregnant that babies get errections either!!!!  The first time this happened I felt really embarrased because I was cleaning him up at the time!!!  Now I am used to it.  I think he is going to have a happy wife one day!)

He has never had a UTI either. Can you believe that he is turning 1 this weekend!!!!????  :o :o

Where has the time gone?

I'm not sure if this was ever mentioned, but I heard something about the glans of the penis being desensitized by circumsion in a human sexuality class I took. I'm not sure of the exact mechanism, but I'm guessing that the constant exposure of the glands leads to some keratinization (like regular epithelia), which can make it more difficult for sensory receptor to pick up specific sensations. So, apparently, uncircumcised men have more fun...? Or something.

The problem isn't so much the glans being desensitized, but rather that the inner foreskin itself is the most sensitive part of the penis (it's not just there to cover the glans).  Even on a circumcised man, the most sensitive part isn't the glans - it's normally the scar line, or the frenulum if that wasn't removed.

If you don't believe me, try stimulating just the glans (and nothing below the rim).  If you're experimenting with your own equipment, it'll take about 3 seconds to realise that it ain't working, and if you're experimenting with someone else's, it depends on how well you know him before he asks you what the heck you think you're doing.

I also read that sex is better for the woman with an uncircumcised man.  I have never been with one  :'(... any volunteers? ? ? ?

Anyway, as I read, cicumcision removes a large portion of the SIZE of the  penis.  Something I know men are obsessed with.  So anybody out there who wants to convince thier husbands that cicumcision isn't a good idea for your unborn son, mention that natural men are LARGER than cut men.  That and sliding action is better, and women tend to not get sore as well as not as much lubrication is needed.

i'd say do it (circumcision)... i have never been with a guy who wasn't and couldn't imagine what it would look like... i wouldn't want ur soon to feel different or self conscious about it when he get's older because it's kinda the standard thing to do... just my opinion and ultimately it is urs to make

So because you have never been with an intact man, you're suggesting to someone else that she has it done to her son?!?

Cutting girls is kinda the standard thing to do in some countries.  In some countries, doctors do it in surgeries with pain relief, and do less damage than a standard male circumcision, but that still doesn't make it right.

Even in the US, only 57% of baby boys are circumcised nowadays, and in the UK, Australia, and Canada, it's almost completely died out, except for Muslim and Jewish parents.

It's his body, let him decide.

hey ml66uk!

I've really enjoyed you sharing the various links in the past for further information. Would LOVE to see you/read your thoughts/comments in other areas of the forum as well! Seems like we all could learn more from you/each other.

i'm just saying... i thought i heard it was healthier for a boy too... something about infections... i plan to have my boy circumcised... but of course it's the parents choice... maybe it's more common where i live that's why i haven't seen the other 43% of non circumcised guys? I dunno

Circumcision is definitely not the norm--but it definitely might be more common in some areas of the country then others (based on prevailing religions/backgrounds of the people there), which is probably why it doesn't seem unusual to many of us.

The uncircumcised guys I've known were hardly self-conscious!

This one especially made me really think.....its kind of crude, so don't watch it if you offend easily.

omg!  That Penn and Teller video was something else!  I didn't need to see that old guy's dick, but I really learned a lot from that.  And it was hilarious.

I'm glad you liked it.....this video pretty much made up my mind when I was questioning it over a year ago. :)

LOL...l2a, I started watching the Penn and Teller while making a snack. Midway through, my new male roommate walked down the stairs. I offered him some of my food. He asked if I was watching Bullshit. I confirmed, but cautioned he might not want to watch it, due to it being about circumcision. He still sat down next to me to watch it. About 5 minutes later he had to walk away.

So what did you think? Did you make it through? I take it he is circumcised  ???

I liked it.

We were eating, and I think it was after the third or fourth bloody baby penis that made him have to get up or lose his appetite.
