You are here

the BOOBS thread

written "BOOBS" and not "boobs" to maximize the semblance to boobs.

continued from the "'you're kind of heavy for a vegan'" thread. We were complaining about boob size, but anything boobs-related goes here. Complaints, praise, musings, whatever.

I've never heard the plus 5 thing, but if it's true, it must be:

1. measure under boobs
2. Add five to that
3. Measure boobs
4. take the difference to get cup size (see US's post)

If I add 5 to the boob measurement, I end up with a 10 inch difference, which would make me a "j". I don't think I'm THAT big! lol

Doing it the way I described above, I get a 2 inch difference, which makes more sense.

Yep, you're a 30. I had to do the same thing. I'm on the middle in a 30, and it's so much more comfortable. It actually stays in place now.

Hmmph.
The problem with that is actually FINDING one that size.

I know. I had to drive 2 hours to go to a Nordstrom's and I couldn't even find one there and they had to special order one for me. I don't really understand why it's so hard to find. I mean, I'm a 30, and I am certainly not tiny. I see girls much much much smaller than me, and I have to wonder how they find bras that fit, because they'd have to be a 28 or 26 even. I have seen where you can special order a 28 (up to DDD, I think!), but I've never seen a 26. It's just ridiculous. I mean, bras go up to...48 or something? It seems like we could have a little bit more on this end.

I kindof feel like I could be a 30 and not 32?
Just because I start off wearing them on the tightest one generally, and then they stretch and get all loose and then I can't have the straps tight enough because the back just comes up instead of it doing its whole job of support. Hrmm.

i just don't get this! I wonder how I can be a 34. I wonder if I have been wearing the wrong number all of my life.
did you measure under your pits to find this out?
or under the boob? i forget how it works.

I went to a Nordstrom's and had them measure me there, 2 separate times just to be sure. Then I tried on a bunch of different brands, just to be sure. It was a multiple hour event, but sooo helpful. Lots of people have touched these ladies!  ;)

Sports bras have less coverage than granny bras!  I don't think I could wear a granny bra.  There's too much fabric for surface area.

my boobs felt nice today. sometimes i just rest my hands on my boobs or just hold them because it's comfortable (people stare when i do this hahahaha) but i was like hey, you girls aren't too bothersome today, good girls". heheheh good boobies.

I can't believe I haven't seen this on Lady Gaga.

I just looked up bra size measuring online. and it is way more confusing than the way I've always known. Idk. Haha.

I've kind of always wanted to go somewhere and have them measure me. But not at the same time.

I was looking at little kid bras in walmart last night (nothing else to do at midnight on a sunday.. lol), and they had 30s! But they were all As. Boo.

okay. so I found this
http://www.wikihow.com/Measure-Your-Bra-Size

The way I said is apparently the old way of measuring? And doesnt apply anymore.

And I measured myself for my band size. it was 28. Yikes.
And that means my cup sizes will be bigger. So I would be a 28C or 28D???
Whatttt????? I think I might never find a size near that in a normal place. Totally gonna go to VS to get measured and see what the all mighty bra experts have to say.

I just watched the video on the link. That was fun. I think my bra size is fine, though I can stretch the band too much I guess... I dunno, I still think it's fine.

Yeah, I can stretch the band a lot too, and the bra I tried it on is even a little (too?) tight on me. I guess it depends on the elasticity of the particular bra.

I have never been able to go by just size, even within the same brand.  Bras just vary too much.  It is really annoying.  I would love to be able to mail order bras instead of going to every store in town to find some, but sizes vary to much for that.

yeah, I can go bra shopping and take 10-12 bras into the dressing room, and still not find one I like....but I'm very picky about my bras - it  has to look good, give me good cleavage, make my boobs look perky and be comfortable - no grandma bras for me...

Boob soulmates! I love that VeganRun! I can't even imagine having a D in 5th grade, thank God that didn't happen until the 9th. Not that the  mean little B*tches at my elementary and middle school cut me any slack. I think I've started to get over it now that I'm older.

One weird thing that I have started to notice is that girls are staring at them?! I went to a job test placement today and one of the girls sitting across from me kept staring at them. I mean she was nice and everything and talked to me but every time I turned back from talking to someone else she was staring at them, lol. Its started happening more and more frequently, generally I don't mind unless I think they are making fun of me, but how weird! Has this happened to anybody else?

I feel your pain about the size 30. I was measured at a 30 DD a year ago but even finding a 32 DD is nearly impossible. So, I just gave up the search and wear the 32 instead (maybe why my back hurts so much :() Seriously though I can relate to taking in like 15 bras and finding 1 or 2 that I feel are suitable and comfy but usually having to buy only one because they are 50 or 60 bucks a piece. At Victorias Secret all they have in a 32DD are like 3 bras in the whole freakin store!!! How mny 30DDs? 0... I don't even know where to look for a 30DD. Another thing that sucks is that shirts that fit my boobs are too lose on my stomach and make me look pregnant or just hang there looking really unflattering. Or the opposite happens it fits my stomach area but is way too small in the top area so I pop out or look like a stripper.  >:( I wish I could design my own clothes!

You just hit the nail on the head. The size of your cup is the difference between your boobs and your band. The smaller your band then, the bigger your cup size. That's why people act shocked that I'm a DD, because they don't look THAT huge (they're still pretty big), but it's because I'm fairly small around my thoracic area of my torso. When I lost weight my boobs stayed the exact same size, but I got much smaller around. Thus, in a way, my boobs "got bigger" because my cup size increased. You see how crazy this whole system is????

Good luck at VS. They're going to tell you to go with a size that they have. And they don't have small band sizes.

I feel your pain, OB. Nordstrom's has 30DD sizes, and they'll special order for you too. I live 2 hours from a Nordstrom, and last fall we were going up there every weekend to try and find a bra that fit! My boyfriend is a saint! Calvin Klein makes a 30DD, and I just ordered one online. I'll let you guys know how it works out. I'll most likely send it back.

my band measure was 27. i feel like there must be something more to the measuring, because my 34s are not even loose.
i'm confused!

I think all bra sizes are lies. And its random and confusing on purpose.

I was trying on bras at ross yesterday. It was a no-go. I found a 32C that seemed to fit, but it was like an old lady bra that was trying to look nice and colorful and lacy and it was so awkwarddddd.

I measured myself (but with shirt & bra on), and it came out to 34D (I currently wear a 36C). ? I've tried on various sizes at stores before out of curiosity, and I'm fo sho a 36C.

I think the measuring just kind of gives you an idea, but you ultimately wear what works.

Ah, VR your right! One of the sales ladies at Victorias Secret convinced me to try on a 34 D because she told me it was the same size as the 32DD. So not true, it was def a cute bra and it kinda fit so I bought it but I can't even lean over or my boobs will pop out and the band is really not how it should be. Grrr... I wish I could return it for a 32DD but they don't have them. >:( Let me know how Nordstroms goes because I will have to make trip after I stop being broke.

PS: I second that all bras sizes are lies! How is it that almost everytime you get measured its a different size... Aren't we all working with the same numerical system?
