Body Fluids--subject to vegan scrutiny--yes or no?

Should human body fluids be identified as vegan or not?

Example--vegan woman ingests the semen of an omni man. How is said semen classified--is this a vegan taboo? Is the semen not-vegan or is it perceived  differently then other products that may or may not contain animal proteins.

Are omin body fluids the same as say a cheeseburger? Yes or no and why? If there is any known credible research--post that too!

Discuss (nicely please!)

...snip...
I guess I missed something dramatic--how could a thread about bodily fluids be demoralizing? I'm just curious...

Maybe sex is demoralizing in some peoples opinion? Or just oral sex?  I mean how dare we talk about the content of semen from our past or present relationships! For shame.

College students do student work at my office.  A couple of years ago, an 18/19-year-old college student was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Her family decided it the only treatment she needed was good thoughts - no other medical treatment past the initial diagnosis.  And she died.

I guess it's okay if you die if it's more of your choice - darwin and all - but she was young and still heavily influenced by her sheltered upbringing.

I took a psych class in which we studied the phenomenon of people claiming to have been healed by positive thinking.  According to the Prof, the studies that have been done on this topic do not show a correlation between emotional well-being (i.e. positive thinking) and incidence of mortality from illness.  There might, however, be an indirect effect in that people who are more positive are more likely to have healthy habits and seek treatment (where as depressed people may not).  Personally I think it is incredibly irresponsible to advise anyone to use sheer positive thinking and willpower as a way to treat a serious illness.  It's bullshit.

You also have to take into consideration the bias that goes along with reporting these "miracles."  You don't hear about people who were cured by conventional means, or people who were not cured by positive thinking--you only hear about the anomalies.

Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled program.  It bothers me that there is a stigma around discussion of oral sex.  It also bothers me that sex is placed into the category of "immoral."  I feel like we're in Catholic high school here, getting our abstinence only sex ed.

But if we TALK about sex (or oral sex), it will make the innocent young people who visit this site go do it... If we never talked about it, they could stay pure.

yeah, I have never really understood why sex is 'immoral' or even talking about sex.  Isn't it one of the most natural things in the world?  I completely understand that many people don't agree with 'casual' sex and that's fine too, but I still don't see why sex can't be talked about openly.

One of my best friends is a strict muslim and she does not agree with sex before marriage, however, she is more than happy to discuss sex with me - and she respects me enough to accept that I do agree with sex before marriage.
We are both adults and can respect each others beliefs enough to continue our friendship with no problems and can even discuss our differences.

Sex is not immoral, and neither is talking about it in my opinion.

It's unhealthy to be that unnerved by a discussion of body fluids.

Yet you will still find many parents cringe at using 'literal' terms for such. (ie pee vs tinkle, poop vs boomboom, etc)....as a nanny, this practice makes ME cringe!!

I agree. Lastnight I was talking about sex with one of my close friends, & I think both of us commented on how good it is to be able to be open and frank (both with friends, and with lovers - part of the discussion was about how some people can't say really basic sexy words, and how that sucks during sexytimes because it makes it so so awkward!)

I once had a discussion with my mom about whether schools should teach about safe sex. My mom surprised me by saying she thinks it should be up to the parents and not the schools. I had to disagree - it's better to learn  from someone who has the facts straight (so to speak!). I'm sure some parents are well-informed, but I know many are not (and even if they are, it's not like every parent-kid relationship is healthy enough to talk frankly about it!)

Isn't this the same premise as Christian Scientists use? I respect them--it seems to work wonders for those who believe in it.

check out the thread a few down from this one - it has 'semen' in the title.  it's been closed to posting but i think you can still read it.

And if we never give them condoms, they will never be able to have sex, so there won't be any unplanned babies!  I love the way you think.  >:D

Yes, I agree with you.  Being educated about sex is one of the most basic types of education that people need!  Like, is their anything more fundamental that we need to be educated about?  It's more important than anything else we could learn in school, arguably.  And yet there are still these bizarre taboos about it, and the question of whether or not we should teach it.  Of course we should teach it--it's the way we make more people!  It's the central thing that makes society!  The whole thing is just not right.

Got it. Damn, I missed out on the fun. This seems very confusing...

FTR, I don't condone people using prayer as opposed to drugs or surgery or whatever--I'm just saying it does work for some people... my grandfather, for one, who has a far from healthy lifestyle. He can't be the only one, or there wouldn't be a religion...

In terms of prayer vs. drugs - my coworker's brother used to have a heavy drug use (coke/speed/etc.)  He's clean now, but has replaced his drug addiction with a bible addiction.  Sometimes you need something to obsess about and someone with a bible addiction has a longer life expectancy and probably steals less.

haha, I know how this is (not literally) but I always replace an addiction with something else... smoking, coffee, bubblegum... you name it.

It's the reason for all the coffee at the AA meetings.

I once willed planters warts from my foot away. But not because Oprah told me to.

Are you serious?  No way?!  When I was a kid, I had these warts on my elbow.  My dad took me to see this man who looked at them and said some stuff.  Then he told me that the warts would go away if I believed him and really wanted them to.  And guess what?  THEY DID!  As a kid I was really religious, so I just took it as a god thing, but now, I don't know what the fuck happened.  Like, this guy did this stuff for people on a regular basis.  I dont know.  I don't understand it now.  hehe.  It was easier when I was religious.

ETA:  I just realized this is the body fluids thread.  I'm appalled.  Body fluids=gross.  Totally immoral.  I don't even touch my own body fluids.  :-D

its true lotus! I willed them away.
Not really on purpose, like I was trying to and thought it would happen. I was just really scared of getting surgery I think, so subconsciously I willed them away.
I wish Noah could do it-he has a nasty one on the bottom of his foot. I keep telling him to think about it going away but its not working. LOL!
