vegan "cheese puffs" ???

alright so-- i usually don't try to imitate non-vegan food, nor do i eat really processed vegan junk foods that are usually laden with trans fats, saturated fats, chemical additives, etc etc. BUT, i really miss Barbara's Bakery natural cheese puffs, made with real cheese (you can get them at whole foods or health food stores). does anyone know of ANY kind of vegan cheese puff substitute? i'm looking for the fat cheese puffs, not the skinny ones. so far i've tried veggie booty and "tings" but they are really not what i'm looking for. if anyone has any ideas, i'd appreciate it. thanks!

Okay this does not sound appealing to me... and is probably not hepful at ALL... BUT
Isn't kix cereal accidently vegan? I never tried kix... but it is puffy corn like, right?
You could sprinkle nutritional yeast on that?
If you needed it to stick... spray with a tad of water before sprinkling...
??? ??? ???

wow, that is very creative!! while i personally love nutritional yeast, i'm not sure it tastes like cheese at all...but thanks, that's a good starting point in terms of DIY cheese puffs...i will brainstorm some more along these lines.

thanks again!

haha actually i made my own vegan parma (nutritional yeast, cashews, salt and garlic powder in the cuisinart, takes like 2 seconds!) and do put it on popcorn, but the crunch/density factor is just not the same. mmmm, it is a delicious snack though, thanks!!

i don't know if you've tried them, but Tings are pretty close to cheetos, they are super delicious!  You can find them in most natural food stores and even in some Safeways.

Let me know, I'm too tired to be the first to try it.
