ice cream!

so i got a vitamix for christmas.  mainly for the purpose of making green smoothies.. helps me stay healthy.  yeah.  so.  ever since i got it, i've made one green smoothie and 3 different batches of ice cream!!!  chocolate peanut butter, chocolate cherry and peanut butter coconut.  YESSSS!  i am now further form being healthy than i was before.  but i am fully satisfied with ice cream.

Do you then pour the ice cream into an ice cream maker, or just put it in a bowl and freeze it?  I've never made ice cream.

i first make sunflower seed milk in the vitamix, which is just sunflower seeds and water, then i add in vanilla, peanut butter, sugar and ice, then i blend for about 30 seconds, and thats it! ice cream! its soo yummy.

i think with an ice cream maker, you have to freeze it, but then you can store it and eat it whenever, with this, you have to eat it right away.

i use the recipes in the book that came with the vitamix.  our favorite is peanut butter.  just substitute soy milk or homemade milk for the cow milk.  if you dont have the book i can write a more detailed recipe to help you out!  its super easy and really only takes a minute or two.

that sounds amazing and so tempting, but also very very dangerous to have in the house.  at least now if i want ice cream i have to decide that i really really really want it enough to drive/ride my bike someplace to get it and then be willing to pay 4.00 on a tiny bit.  usually laziness & cheapness wins out, thankfully!

Moving this back over to the regular Q&A since it pertains directly to non-controversial food (and if you tell me ice cream is controversial, I'll pop you in the face!).

BTW, I sent this link to Heliamphora once upon a time, but you all must know about this website. She doesn't make it in a Vitamix, but you get the picture. Lotsa good ideas there.

This doesn't directly pertain to Vitamix ice cream, but I got an ice cream maker & the book Vice Cream (vegan ice cream) for Christmas, and I love both! I like some of the store-bought soy ice creams, but most I just don't care for--especially vanilla. Blech! Well, these vice creams are cashew-based (and soy-free), and totally incredible! :D I have only made a couple flavors so far; Mint Chocolate Chip was first on my list, and it's better than any dairy ice cream I ever had. It's definitely not low-fat or low-calorie, but the fats are plant-based, so I feel much better about it. Plus, it's so insanely creamy that a little bit satisfies an ice cream craving! :)

oooo vice cream.  that sounds awesome.  since im just blending stuff and eating it right away, i ususally add in 4 cups or so of ice.  do these recipes have ice too?  i'm wondering, if i would take a recipe for an ice maker and just make it in a blender plus ice, would it turn out watered down?  hmmm.

Hmmm... I'm not sure. These recipes call for about 2 cups of water to be blended with 2 cups of cashews (along with the sugar and flavoring), then to be put in the ice cream maker after resting in the fridge for about an hour... So, maybe if you used two cups of ice instead of water? ??? It seems like you have a good formula going, so maybe just try cashews as the nuts next time?
