Big dinner/guest menus

This is a place to talk about what we've made for big/fancy/more effort/guest meals, or if we want ideas for a menu.

We had P's mom and P's coworker (Dan) and wife over last night, and I made a large meal! P wanted to impress Dan with a vegan fettuccine alfredo (and I think it did!). He at least much preferred it over the omni alfredo his (chef) son in law made him the week prior. I made:

Menu

asparagus twists with dipping sauce (AVK)
3 bean salad (AVK)
spinach and strawberry salad with balsamic vinaigrette (AFR with my own adaptations)
fettuccine alfredo with broccoli (AVK)
garlic herb bread (my own)
red velvet 2 layer cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and chocolate ganache (VTable with my own adap.)

beer, wine, ice water

yeah, but what you guys forget is that all of oww's food tastes bad, so that's why she can manage it.

OK not really - I'm super jealous that her food is always much better than mine - even using the same bloody recipe it'll be better than mine.  Not fair!

geese the only big planned meals i've done have been holiday meals...

i like that many vegan cookbooks have like a meal planner thing at the end that tells you what dishes would compliment each other feast style :)

not really a big dinner or anything, but the last meal I cooked for people other than just me and N....

for our ex-neighbours we cooked:
puff pastry parcels filled with seitan, mushroom, onion, peas, sweetcorn, carrot in a creamy white wine/lemony sauce
maple mustard glazed potatoes and parsnip (VWAV)
savoy cabbage sautéd in olive oil and chili flakes

followed by apple crumble (Old recipe from Good Housekeeping) with custard - N made the whole crumble under my supervision, and apparently it's the best he's ever had ::)

big pot of chana masala
big pot of vegetable korma made with cauliflower, carrot, onion, mushrooms and broccoli fresh from my garden

aloo paratha
rice

banana split cupcakes.

and I didn't take a photo of the breads and stuff I made on Saturday, but it was almost identical to what I made for a mid-winter Christmas dinner with the in-laws the weekend before:

So, I never saved any of my menus from my big holiday dinners. So sad. :(

I'm sure you've done some menus recently, though?

It has been almost a year since I've done a really big dinner party, actually. The closest thing to it was just an Indian food feast I cooked for my sister and lubi back in early Spring.

I'm just pretty bummed about my big holiday dinners I did. I had them all as myspace events (the last two were on facebook), but the events don't go back that far on either site so I can't look them up to see what I made. I remember vaguely, but it would be nice to have it all written out. Sad.
